Hi Everyone.

With the ability to earn VS tier points and miles on AF I'm planning to take a flight in Premium Economy from IAD to CDG but the fare bucket that keeps coming up is "A" and VS's website only references "W" and "S" so I'm going to assume this is just an over sight and we can earn miles and tier points on an A fare ticket. I also assume it would be on par with Delta's "G" fare - 50TP/100% miles?

Would anyone be able to confirm? Much appreciated.

Additional Edit: VS Gold get no special benefits on AF, correct? Didnt see anything on the VS website, just want to confirm.

If the VS website doesn't explicitly define the fare bucket as one that earns TP's & Miles, then it likely won't. Thats true of DL as well. There's some fare buckets that do not earn VS miles on a lot of the partners.

If you want to earn miles, book one of the specified codes, otherwise you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment.

You can always ask VS if it is an oversight, but I doubt it.

Nothing has changed yet as far as I’m aware so if the flight doesn’t have a VS flight number it won’t earn you anything at present.

You can only currently earn FC miles and TP’s if it’s a codeshare flight (i.e. the flight has a VS flight number) op’ed by either AF or KLM.

How are you attempting to book the flights? Who is it with?

Just to reiterate things in a way that I understand them. You have to book the flight with VS (i.e. have a VS booking reference and flights with VS flight numbers) in order to be able to earn miles/TP on Air France/KLM. You cannot book the flight with Delta or Air France/KLM, even if the flights you book are a codeshare route.

Really? I thought they were all up there, including the cheapest options.

It's a code share route per an announcement in March of this year https://news.klm.com/klm-air-france-and-virgin-atlantic-launch-codeshare-partnership/.

It's through my employer's travel booking program but it will be ticketed directly by Air France. I've had no issue receiving TPs and miles with Delta through this arrangement but understand the AF/KLM relationship is different.

Cheers gents. Thanks for the replies.

I have to book a lot of my flights in the same way and it makes booking AF/KLM flights to earn VS TP and miles virtually impossible for me. The exact same flights ticketed by VS are either significantly more expensive (which I obviously can't justify since my employer doesn't really care about my desire to earn VS miles, nor my pursuit of lifetime gold) or I just can't find them on the corporate travel agents booking agent. I'm hoping all this will change soon now the joint venture has received final approval.

I know the feeling. While I go to the UK a lot, when I need to go to continental Europe I usually have to go to Munich so I have to perform some gymnastics to get the right flights and ensure I earn TPs and use of a clubhouse. This time it's Lisbon and Air France have some reasonable fares but I'm really looking forward to the joint venture bearing some fruit so I can get to Europe easier!

Just to bring this to closure, VS confirmed an A fare on Air France is eligible at 80 TPs per sector and 100% miles. The website should be updated in due time. There are also no special benefits for VS Gold on AF/KLM at the moment so hopefully that comes soon as well.

Cheers
