Mrs M. and I have a return trip to TPA booked for April/May originally in PE using points.

A couple of weeks ago 2 Upper reward seats appeared for the outbound so I called in and upgraded us. Agent advised me that it would be 25,000 points each plus around £160 - a bit less cash than I thought. When I said that she replied “oh, hang on it’s less because you won’t have a change fee for upgrading”. It ended up £126.55.

Yesterday 2 reward seats for the return appeared so I called again. This time it’s 25,000 points again and £160 each. I queried the cash and asked about the change fee but she was adamant that I had to pay the fee.

So, which is correct?

ps - the payments are showing on my CC and the 2nd batch of points have been deducted from my account but not the first batch - has she forgotten or does that get caught up somehow later.

Classic VS phone agents. There's so much bending and breaking of the rules it's crazy.

The honest answer on the change fee is I am not 100% sure. I thought it was waived for Golds but everyone else had to pay. Happy be to corrected there.

As for deducting points, this is a manual process for them. I would expect that it gets caught up. If the ticket hasn't been issued by revenue yet, they will likely catch it then. But I have had this happen before (usually on airport upgrades) where the points never get taken. In that scenario, I usually keep quiet and play dumb. It's not my job to correct stuff like that. It's a rare occasion though.

Status aside, I've never been charged an upgrade fee. I have however been charged change fees when changing airports and/or dates. Unsure what the actual rules are.

However, can I confirm, that you paid:

    45,000 + £534.81
Then you called to upgrade outbound at 25,000 each + £126.55. And now 25,000 + £160 each?
    Making a grand total of 95,000 + £821.36?

I ask in reference to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=300610

Either they're honouring reward pricing at the time of booking or this is some loophole people may want to try out.

Yes that’s pretty much what it was - just a slight cash difference:

45,000 points plus £543.56 then the 2 upgrades making 95,000 + £830.11.
The original booking was made last October.
