Which in itself may constitute unfair dismissal. If signed off by your Doctor it would be a very brave (or foolish) employer who sacked someone in those circumstances. Tribunals take a hard line in those cases and will not hesitate to award large payouts.

It would count as a 'pattern absence' under BA's sickness policy.

Just received an email from BA titled 'Please accept 10,000 BA Miles as a thankyou for your continued support'. Guess anyone with an upcoming BA booking has received the same?

Iain, you have to take the flights booked in the strike period to get the miles credited.

Tossers, because of their disruption we moved our flight, not just cancelled them, so they still get our business. They are back in the bad books, although we had a terriffic purser on our flight back who gave us a goody bag which included 6 Pommerey[y]as well as a few minatures. Well we were the only ones in Club cabin[:D]

Just as a wee final conclusion to my Christmas travel expedition, because of the pending BA strike we moved dates etc and booked LH from LHR via MUC to BEG to get back for New Year. On the 29th Dec at 7pm LH texted me to say they had cancelled my morning flight from LHR. Obviously a call was made to LH and despite their best efforts to convince to travel to LHR for an even earlier flight, 6am, or a different routing I asked for a full refund even though I was on a very el cheapo ticket. Managed to book back on BA ( abit of irony I thought) for the next morning flight which got us back home as planned.
Just checked my Amex account and there is my full refund from LH for the 4 tickets. Nice one, no chasing, no false promises, just done[y]
Thank you LH

just saw a bit of the report on the news.

I hope they have solid legal advice to make this decision and announcement as it could be seen as interferring with the ballot and punishing a specific group of staff.

Staff travel is a non-contractual privilege and can be withdrawn at any time at the discretion of the company.

My guess is that WW has some of the best legal advise that money can buy and consults in advance of any actions.

There's an interesting article here in today's Observer about BA's, and the airline industry's, woes.

Thoughts at this time they will vote in favour of the strike again. Have to give 7 days notice, so earliest will be 1st March. Its thought up to 3,500 BA staff are prepared to work as CC over a strike period though

Strike ballot result to be delayed till 5pm today not 2pm as the post arrived late!!!!
As ballot officially ended at midday the count must include all the mail delivered this morning

I believe that whilst the ballot will be announced today. If it's a yes, dates won't be agreed till Thur 25th when the union meets. So the earliest is the 4th March.

Quote from BBC

'Unite said that 78.77% of the 11,691 ballot papers issued were returned. Of those 80.7% (7,482) supported taking action with 1,789 voting against it. '

Interesting use of figures - 'Unite say 80.7% supported taking action',(technically true) but if you look at the figure 7,482 compared to the ballots issued 11,691, its only 63.9%, which is not quite so clear [:w]
