Hello all:

After what feels like a lifetime flying Delta I've recently departed the JFK Clubhouse and am in my seat on my first VS flight, VS004...which is now a 346, when it was supposed to be a 744, when it was originally supposed to be a 789. Having flown regularly for most of my life, I certainly understand that scheduled aircraft can change due to a number of circumstances, but is this kind of metal roulette common with VS?

I'm now in a terrible (relatively speaking, I am still in UC) seat that I couldn't change given the last-minute nature of the aircraft change, my IFE doesn't work, etc. On the plus side, the crew seems great so far, the Clubhouse was phenomenal and...as I was typing this they graciously re-seated me.

Anyway, back to the original question above.

Welcome to VS and sorry they mucked you around but glad you enjoyed the Clubhouse and on board service. When they're on form, VS crews really are superb and they're what makes the airline.

You were unlucky to have two changes of metal. 99 times out of 100 you'll get what you were promised originally. At the moment, though, there's quite a bit of fleet upheaval on the LHR routes as VS gradually introduces its 789s (slower than scheduled) and prepares to get rid of its 744s and some of its A346s.

As a result there's quite a lot of chopping and changing but stick with them as things will hopefully start to settle down as more 789s come into service.

Regarding the equipment change, I had a nice surprise last night when checking my booking. I'm not due to fly until January next year but my outbound flight to Miami was moved from 10.30am to 9.30am, which is fine by me.
The best part is that the return flight was moved from a A346 to a B744.
As I've managed to grab 2 G upgrades on both ways, I've jumped straight on 12A/K for the way back. Fingers crossed they will let me hold on to them !
