Flying to Vegas from uk in April and considering applying for global entry (as we have a few trips planned to USA). Can any one tell me if you are able to get your interview on arrival or if it’s just by appointment only?

Any one had any experience with having an interview at McCarran?

Thanks in advance x

We had an interview on arrival at McCarran last August. You have to proceed as normal for entry and then tell the officer that you require an interview and somebody took us to a different booth for the interviews. It was a bit slower having the extra interview but well worth it. Hope this helps.

Hi Carolynn,

Very strongly echo Janeclar’s useful warning. Apply as soon as you can if you want to be able to get an interview on arrival for your April visit.

There are a number of other posts on here (including several from me) about difficulties with some ‘interviews on arrival’ which you might find useful. Given the current ‘shutdown situation’, and I also hear that the blue flu is affecting TSA staff numbers in some areas, there might well be delays/cancellations with appointments.

In any event, probably a good idea to arrange an interview later in your stay anyway, just in case you need it.

Kind regards,

John

The TSA has nothing to do with Global Entry which is the remit of the Customs & Border Protection .

I understood that the Global entry applications are not being processed at the moment while in shutdown? Can anyone confirm this please. I was approved by the Uk and have submitted my application thru the TTP a week ago but have no confirmation my application was received (my $100 has been paid from my bank account though)! S

I don’t recall getting an email to say my application had been received. I did get one to say I had been approved even though they say they don’t send emails and you need to check your status via your account (the emails actually say that there has been a change in status)

You should check the status in your TTP account.

I just fished back through my emails from last year when I applied for GE. I got two from Border Force (for the UK checks). One was a receipt for my payment of the fee & the second with my UK access code on when I'd passed the UK checks. I then had two emails from US CBP - both came from email address [email protected] & were entitled "TTP Application Status Change". The first came when I'd been conditionally approved & they were inviting me to schedule an interview. The second came right after my interview at the US Embassy in London (I'd not even left the Embassy grounds) saying I'd been approved - which I already knew as the lady interviewing me said she was approving me.

As tontybear says, above, there was no email from CBP saying they'd received my application - but given that you have to apply online & pay at the same time, you sort of know the application has been received when they take the payment.

As an aside, my ESTA has less than 4 weeks left on it now & I know at one time CBP did send out reminder emails telling you your ESTA was due for expiry. Maybe the system that sends these automated emails has a fault & is a victim of the US shutdown? Either way I'm not bothered as my ESTA is good for my trip in 3 weeks time.

You should still get ESTA expiry reminder emails as long as your email address you enter in your application is still valid.

You can always check or update your email address via the 'check existing application' section of the ESTA website. You just need your passport number. There are 2 sections to the update part of the ESTA website.

1) if you know your ESTA application code (the long 16 digit code) or 2) if you don't know that. Just enter the requested details for either option.

I got an ESTA expiry email reminder last year. I also set myself a 2 yearly calendar reminder as well so I know and can see exactly when my ESTA is going to expire.

Thanks Tontybear and Kraken for your info. I’m hoping I will get approval before heading back to Fl as the last time in October I went thru immigration I was offered an interview by the immigration officer when I asked about GE. He said if I had my interview request he would have done it there and then! I only have a 4 weeks so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Fortunately my visa has 3 years before it expires, so don’t have that issue to worry about!
