Although there is no hard and fast rule, or perhaps no rule at all.

When would the gurus think that an UC fare might convert into a G.

I tend to book my G's into and out of LAX and check the availability of LAS-LGW G's every few days and change whenever possible.

However this time I would really like to book the LGW-LAS return, for the approximate dates I am thinking of travelling, the UC cabin has at least 8 seats available on 3 or 4 consecutive flights.

I realise this is a very crude method of finding out seat availability, but if you had to guess when G's might become available, when would your guess be ?

You are correct in that there is no set rule/system. You might find the there might never be G's released for certain flights. The LGW-LAS route is a VERY tough route to find G's on due to the popularity of the route and the fact the UC cabin is very small.

All you can do is keep checking, but I have found that G's are either released close to the beginning of the flight being on sale or very close to the flight date.

I am sure others will have thoughts on this too.

As Neil says, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to reward seats.

The revenue mismanagement department is a law on to itself, to the point where I have seen flights leave with UC seats empty rather than releasing a seat...You can never tell when or where they will pop up, but LAS is one route that I don't even bother checking on.

For LAS, your best bet of a G is to try LAX or SFO and then VX into LAS.

Of course a lot depends on how far into the future you plan to fly....

VS into the Future Flyer (VSFF) will be available for a mere 100,000,000 FC miles........ one way!

On the serious side, I'd go down the SFO route and enjoy the clubhouse either end, but that's just me. [:p]

But would you be able to afford the fuel surcharge to bring you back?

Lucky me, I ahve been searching for LGW-LAS g's nearly every day, so today before I went to book a flight with BMI from MAN-LAS I check on Virgin and they had a few G's into LAS.

I got lucky and got a LAS-LGW return also.

If anybody else is interested, October has a few G's on the outbound, he return looks like it will have to be via LAX-LHR.

I will check later to see if I am scheduled for a LGW plane or not.
