Hi

Apologies if this question isn't in the correct part of v-flyer or if answered elsewhere.

I have started flying Virgin for all work trips after a few years of mostly BA flights. I'm enjoying Virgin so far!

I did some Virgin flying that enabled me to get to FC Gold in Aug 2016. I didn't fly Virgin at all after that until now and so was downgraded to Silver in Aug 2017. I started flying Virgin in May 2018 and will earn enough tier points to renew Silver in Aug 2018, but not enough to get to Gold (will probably be on around 600 tier points).

I will earn more than 1000 tier points in the 12 months from May 2018. I'm unclear from the rules if that means I will get Gold or whether any tier points I earn from May-Aug 2018 will be reset when my membership year starts again. I've spoken to 2 different VA people on the Silver line and got different answers, so am confused. My reading of Virgin's 12-13 month collection window is that I should get Gold in my circumstances.

Does anyone more knowledgeable than me know the answer?

Thanks.

Tier point reset at the end of the 12 month cycle, so i believe you will lose your tier point in August

From my interpretation of your situation, had you taken out a new FC membership when you started flying with Virgin again, you would have started to earn from May 18 and therefore would have hit gold as you would have 12 months from that date.

Might be worth pursuing this point with Virgin to see if there is any wiggle room in the expiry dates, particularly if you have a number of future flights booked. not sure what their response would be though

Welcome to V-Flyer :-D

This is where Flying Club gets a little complicated unfortunately.

Whilst tier points do reset at the end of your Flying Club membership year; they don't get completely wiped from existence as all tier points earned from every flight do actually last for 12 months from the date of the flight so even if you miss the threshold for remaining gold (which you have), those tier points you earned in the last 12 months still count towards moving back up to gold.

I'm in a similar situation here as I'm currently Gold and my membership year ends the end of this month (May 31st). I've only earned 560 tier points since hitting gold meaning I will drop to Silver on June 1st, however, I've earned all those tier points between 16th September 2017 and the present day, meaning as long as I earn at least another 440 tier points before 15th September 2018, I will hit gold again (which is my plan  )

yes it is a rolling year so flights 12 months (though I actually think it's 13) ago automatically drop off the calculations.

But this is a distinct advantage over BA with it's fixed membership year dates.
