God I wish I hadn't started to read this thread. Desperately trying to do Atkins so I can get into my 'slim' clothes for our hol next month - so no chocolate and even worse no caffeine for me. I'm going to be thinking about this all day now.

I did Atkins 4 years ago and lost 4 stone - and now I eat a fairly low carb diet and it works for me - I did drink coffee thru the diet and it had no detrimental effect - some say that caffeine slows down the weight loss - but I didnt find that. As with any diet I think you find what works for you and then do it!! Its always the will power whatever path you take - even now 4 years on I rarely eat chocolate or have puddings even tho I love them - I eat fruit and plenty of veg and unlime the misconception of Atkins diest I dont have full english breakfast every day or eat a lot of fat - today for example I had a couple of slices of roast chocken and a piece of cheese for brekkie!!

If you need any help then pm me and I will help where I can!!

Mark, thanks and well done on losing the weight and more importantly keeping it off!! Really pleased to hear your comments about coffee - it's the one thing I'm really craving for so I'm going to go and make myself one now:D

Thanks for the offer of help - I might take you up on it if I get desperate but you're right it's all about willpower. Luckily I haven't got too much to lose, just not much time to do it in!

I can vouch for coffee being OK for atkins. Remember no sugar of course! Also keep in mind that AFAIR milk does have some carbs, so add them into your 25 (or whatever the limit was!) or of course drink it black.

So was talking to a friend today who is ape crazy for Ghirardelli coffee. He says that a US airline served it in Y and F(J). I cannot find any carriers that do. Remember any?

My wife is addicted to Knotts Berry Farm Boysenberry jam(Jelly), not the "Light" version, that tastes like $%&£ . I know its not coffee or chocolate, but there you go. We are based in the UK but have an office in San Jose(Ca) so luckily can get a steady supply.

Far from chocolate... Every trip I make has me scouring drug stores for bottles of Clairol Herbal Essences Hairspray and mousse which my mother and sister are both hooked on [?]

So far ive 'imported it' from the US, Canada and Hong Kong and thankfully never had to explain anything to the authorities.

Good excuse for a trip though ;)

If you're unable to source any of that coffee beforehand, I've got an upcoming trip to SFO (will arrive back in UK on 2nd April) - let me know via PM if you want me to be a "mule" for ya :D Sorry, my trip's been cancelled [:(]

One of the things from the US that I can't live without is Don Francisco's French Roast coffee. About £8 a tin (12oz/340g) from Albertsons, I bring back at least 3 tins every time I go over there :)

Cheers

Hmm, interesting! Mind you, one of my friends wanted the tooth whitening kits previously unavailable in the UK so I had to bring back a few of those for him one time. Then there was another friend of mine who wrote a list of purchases including US Cosmo, some of the Desserts beauty products by Jessica Simpson (has anyone tried the butterscotch toffee body frosting - smells sweet and delish and is kind of edible too! I used it one morning and spent the rest of the day beating off the kids in my class who were sniffing me [:o)]). Bizarre!

I have to say, I do check out the nearest Longhorns steakhouse to my hotel whenever in the US cos their 'Caramel Apple Goldrush' dessert is pure stodgy sweet indulgence. The pic has disappeared off the website now [:(]. Dessert Monster, me? [:I]

Trouble is, takes up space on the bags!

Now - thought (!) - do any of you have any tricks for making more space available? One of mine is to take away some older clothes to wear and bin them there after I've worn them. Less washing, and more space for bringing home those essentials! [^]
