Those would probably what they call the "Loose Slots" machines which have a higher than average payback - locals and staff get to know where they are and they become very popular
It's probably because a progressive jackpot has gotten over the point where it should of hit.Say for megabucks where it is supposed to hit around $8 million,by the time the jackpot reaches $12 mill or so people line up to take their chance.Of course every machine is based upon a random number generator,what makes a slot "loose" is the payback table,you can have two machines of the same type sitting next to eachother with different pay tables,this is hat give's the payback.
