Those would probably what they call the "Loose Slots" machines which have a higher than average payback - locals and staff get to know where they are and they become very popular ;)

It's probably because a progressive jackpot has gotten over the point where it should of hit.Say for megabucks where it is supposed to hit around $8 million,by the time the jackpot reaches $12 mill or so people line up to take their chance.Of course every machine is based upon a random number generator, what makes a slot "loose" is the payback table, you can have two machines of the same type sitting next to eachother with different pay tables, this is hat give's the payback.

Well said Dave, I had forgotten about that possibility [y]

In a past life, many years ago I worked for a time in the Amusement Machines industry, selling and servicing all manner of amusement machines; including slots, mechanical like the old (but great) Jennings Club Chief and electro mechanical ones like Mountain Climber which had a progressive jackpot - those were the days ;)

For me, the best thing about Vegas is (and always will be) the Bellagio fountains. I defy anyone to watch a performance and not be completely in awe!

I agree about the fountains but with one excepion - there is a song that they do a performance to that is sooo cheesy I was crying with laughter.

It's got lyrics which are something along the lines of, "God bless America, I love America"

Maybe if I was an American it would have made me feel all patriotic, but I could hardly stand up as I was laughing so much... or was that the cocktails? [:w]

That would be "god Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood a former "Las Vegas native"meaning he lived here at some point as half of the population in the USA seems to.

I've seen that particular performace. If you can look past the cheesiness of the lyrics, the synchronisation of music to the water is really spot on :).

I was very unsure about going first time, everyone said its like Blackpool, but I have since learned that only people that can only afford blackpool say that[:o)]

As soon as I got there on our second trip I won $600 on the slots whilst waiting in the queue to check in at the luxor, then got to the desk and she saw my Upper Class Tag ( cardboard one ) and upgraded me to a suite in the tower, lovely. Whilst waiting to use the loo in another arcade type thing I won $900 on another slot machine, and hello my new Cartier Wallet and belt[}:)] Went for a walk to the Hilton to see the star treck thing and stopped off in another arcade on the way back for a coke, put the change in a slot and hey presto $500 and hello SACKS and a gucci wallet for the other half and little goodies.

Got sort of Hitched to my other half, seen Celine Dion Twice and sat front row actually leaning on the stage for Gladys Knight and her pip.

My fav hotel is Ceasars THE FORUM IS FAB OMG THE SHOPPING ITS LIKE BUYING STUFF IN HEAVEN!!

I don't think the place is my number one choice for a holiday as its a bit hectic, but it has to be the most expensive and outrageously thought out version of tacky on the planet.

Onionz could you please let me know how I can get FRONT ROW at Celine Dion's concert like you did?????? I would love to give that as a gift to my other half.

Our last holiday was 3 days in Luxor, one rather special night in Bellagio overlooking the fountains and three nights in Monte Carlo to chill out.

To tell you the truth Bazz I had no idea how they worked, all the lights flashed so I just held them all each time and then all these criss cross lines came up and the machines just took ages adding all the lines up then offered me video games, i was just pressing the buttons like hell and ech time the little light went on at the top of them. Sure I couldn't do it again, turns out I was gambling on the highest levels by pressing all the lit buttons and was lucky.

When I got back I had as many dollars as I went with, lol.

Now that has never happened to me [:(!]

Sometimes when playing these highly complex machines, being a novice can be beneficial, certainly worked for you anyway [oo]

I'm sure i've mentioned this before, but essentially you need to be [related to] someone who "invests" a lot in your chosen casino, and you need a host at that casino to be looking after you and making sure you have a good time, and then you have to hope for the best. That's the best I can suggest! ;)

And to think I was thrilled when I once won $25 in quarters! Course, that was way back (5 years ago) and when the coins still came out of the machine. It's just not the same now, when all you get is one of those barcode tickets.....

hi - as some people have already said - if you don't like the gambling and falseness of the strip - there's plenty of other stuff to do.

vegas doesn't end at the strip - there's some beautiful parts of town - where non-gambling people live and work. - Yes - just like a regular town.

Also other touristy stuff you can do - you can ski at lee canyon for a month or two - only 45 mins away, ski in Utah - easy 3 hr drive away, visit death valley, grand canyon, zion national park, boat on lake mead -

in fact there's so much to do within an easy drive from vegas - there's no reason to spend all your time in casinos - that's if you don't like them..

personally I love everything - gambling and all the other stuff...

What I do dislike though is winter - time - its too COLD to BBQ and have pool parties round friends!!
