This will be a relatively short TR, to refelct the relatively short jaunt to New York to amass some much needed Tier Points :|

Mrs Buns & I had taken the bold decsion to go for re-qualification this year (most probably our last :# ) and had toyed with a very short weekend in either Dubai or New York, using evening departures on the Friday and getting back on the Sunday night in order not to loose any holiday entitlelment. Dubai was silly money so EWR it was and a quick call to Flying Club secured L Returns and a miles upgrade for the outbound y)

So left work on the Friday lunchtime, got back home picked up the car and started the trek round the M25 - for anyone who is familiar with this highway, the combination of being a Friday afternoon, wanting to get to the Clubhouse as soon as possible and the weather being hot, this is a recipie for taking twice the normal time, which of course happened. No worries, parked in the short term car park at T3 (advance booking secured £50 for the weekend) and down into the Virgin Upper Class Check In in no time. Had grabbed SEQ 5 & 6 the night before (OK, I'm a lightweight) but used the UC Check In as this isa lot easier than using the blessed machines and then queing for the drop off. As the ticket was a miles upgrade, I was anxious to get the FF Number on there as this would get me through the magic door :w. As it transpired, the laser reader was not working properly so needed to buzz, but was not any problem. Journey time from Car to Clubhouse 15 - 20 Minutes :D :D

I should point out, that Mrs Buns was still at work at this time and would join me later - I having safely checked in her bag as part of my 2 piece allocation. Entry time to the Clubhouse was 4pm and made my way directly to the Spa and asked what was available and was offered a hair cut immediately :0 I have to admit it was very quiet in the Clubhouse and was told this was always a good time to get a treatment. Chatted with the guy who did a very good job on my thinning, greying, generally old man locks and was soon on my way to find one the Eames seats and wait for Mrs Buns. Staff of course were attentive and tried then to log on to the WiFi - NO JOY v( (indeed, later on managed to obtain the AA Signal whilst sitting near the Spa). About an hour later, Mrs Buns arrived and she also managed to get a Hand and Arm Treatment at the Spa for later in the evening. With this essential out of the way, the obligitary visit to the Brasserie for the Burger was undertaken.

Following this, we looked up to the new Grey Goose Lounge and saw it was empty, save the lonely Bartender. I will not recount our experience there in detail as it is covered in the Grey Goose thread, suffice to say that if you are in the Clubhouse for an evening flight, it is a great distraction for a short time (any longer and you will not get down the stairs, let alone on the aircraft ;) ) for one drink. Afterwards settled down, Mrs B had her treatment and I occupied myself using an adjacent wifi. Flight called at around 7:30 and a jaunt down to Gate 19, by which time the Gate Lobby was empty and we went straing onto the aircraft.

Personally, I found 22A a good seat, nobody behind and I did not find the toilet nearby "bothersome" :w :w in any way. The food is as previously reported, and both Mrs Buns and I opted for the Beef, which was OK (glad to have had the Clubhouse Burger beforehand). The IFE might have been V-Port, but I have to admit that I am now getting "menu fatigue" as it does seem as though is the same episodes of Family Guy are there and in any event, the whole day was beginning to catch up on us so to be honest, spent the majority of the flight asleep.

Arrival in EWR was absoutely painless. An empty Immigration Hall and bags out very quickly indeed. So much so that after walking outside the Terminal and across the Car Parking Lot, we were in our hotel 30 minutes after landing.

All in all, a serious contender for future NYC jaunts as I certainly was able to shift my body clock much more easily and the next day we were back in the airport and on the train to NYC for the princely sum of $25 return for a day of shopping and dining ):

Thanks for reading

Great TR. I agree about the IFE menu, but when I fly on other airlines it isn't any better! Always good to hear about a fun TP run, the older I get the less enthusiastic I am about them but you have got me thinking...... y)

I too agree about the IFE menu, it is getting staid. But am looking forward to the GGL tonight, also on the VS17 (albeit a row further forward ii) ).

Thanks for the TR, hope your short break was worth it - I'd do New York in 48 hrs just the same, in fact I have, often.

Great TR y) What a wonderful way to spend a weekend in NYC! Sounds like a good all round experience - Mrs P and I used to use VS17 frequently to visit her sister in Philly (could have used BA direct :$) and always found it a great end to the working week! Please note the word 'used' as she has moved back to the UK - selfish! :D
Have a great time-looking forward to the return TR already :D

IFE menu has been KILLINGGGGG me the past few months. I seriously thinks some of those films and TV shows (i.e. Modern Family, and Diaries of a Whimpy kid) have been on for at least 6-10 months. SHOOT ME! Virgin IFE menu has really got to kick it up a notch!
