I haven't flown out of Boston before and can't believe a major airport has to rely on shuttle buses to get between terminals, the rental stop and the subway. After a trip in the Sesame Street shuttle, (going through the alphabet of terminals as VS fly from E), we reached the check in. Seeing as VS only have one flight a day, I was very impressed with the effort that they had gone to with regards to tensabarriers and marking each class seperately. The checkin staff were very efficient and invites for the lounge swiftly issued.
The Boston immigration guys were supremely friendly and wished us well on our journey. The clubhouse is after security which is always a bonus and a quick elevator ride downstairs is required. The lounge was fairly busy and is self service. A good selection of wines and spirits available and the clam chowder was far superior to the 'authentic' soup I had purchased at Quincy Market earlier in the trip! Time passed very quickly, probably due to the excellent 2007 Alsace Gewurztraminer 'Hugel' available!
Onto the flight very quickly and once again the premium classes were full. My parents were in PE and had a small incident with someone reclining at the speed of light as soon as the seatbelt signs went off. I'm all for reclining on a night flight, but slowly and gently is polite (and would have saved my father's crushed knees!).. Upper class was absolutely full as well - our assigned FA was provided excellent service despite the heavy load.
I slept all the way through the flight and all too soon it was time for a descent into LHR. I like a big jug of coffee in the morning, but UC only get a little cup full [:(!] unlike the paper tankard in PE! Took ages to find a stand at Heathrow, but we eventually made it and whizzed through security, collected our bags and found our Tristar driver ready to take us back to Taplow.
