I could always get a list off my friend Ella who maried a Canadian and moved there 18 months ago....? She's the one I'm off to see this October.

Try http://www.worldclimate.com for weather data for any city in the world.

Off sick! [:$] Actually major shoulder and back pain from muscle knots so I'm off to the chiropractor again this morning for a physical and financial beating [B)]

When the doc signed me off she asked how it had got that bad...I didn't like to admit too much V-Flyer abuse i.e. RSI! [:I]

My favorite city of all!

Walk right around the city (including Stanley Park)
Granville Island for shopping and browsing
Trip to Whistler
Trip north to the Sunshine Coast (Gibsons and Sechelt)
Catch a float plane from Coal Harbour and fly to Victoria
Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island (interesting even if you donÕt like gardening)
Whale watching trip
Eat out at night in Gas Town
For some shopping catch the little train to Burnaby Mall
Stroll down Robson Street - lovely shops
Trip up to Grouse Mountain for the views (and some para-gliding if that floats your boat)

*sigh* I want to be there right now...:) but September is a fabulous time to visit - its an "all year" kind of city. You'll have a wonderful time (I've been three times and have always had a superb trip) - have fun!

Claire,

Not sure Ella will have much to add to that comprehensive list but I will still ask for you as Scott lived there for about 30 years (they live in Burnaby)!

You'll have to give me your top tips too as you'll be there before me.

Do you think we'd need a car? Obviously, we would to go to Whistler, but how about other than that?

Am so excited!

No need for the car to be honest.

If your off to Whistler your best bet is to get the greyhound. Runs about 12 times a day, takes about 2 1/2 hours. You get to sit back relax and observe some of the most beautiful scenary.

Cost is about $35 Canadian (return) so much cheaper than a car. Once your in Whistler you dont need a car everything is walkable unless you want to go to creekside but thats a $10 taxi.

Enjoy!

Im in Vancouver right now and will most likely be here till the start of March however I can't add anything to the lists above as they are quite comprehensive.

My favorite things here are to just walk around downtown, there is such a wide cross section of people and places, also food shopping in the Granville Island market (right across the harbour from the long stay hotel we use here).

But its cold and wet right now (theres a surprise).

Oh I almost forgot, last time I was here I got tattooed in an amazing little place on Granville street, but that may not be for you.

Love the sound of the market - but will probably pass on the tattoo, thanks all the same!

Oh, I don't know though....[}:)]

Was the tattoo shop an amazing little place or was it the site of the tattoo that was the "amazing little place". If the latter, I can understand your final comment better!;)

Hi,

I loved

Hiring a bike and cycling around the Stanley Park seawall and down English Bay to Burrard Bridge

The Museum of Anthopology at UBC ( esp the First Men and the Raven by Bill Reid)

The Steam CLock in Gas Town

The view from the lookout center ( ticket valid all day so come back at night)

The Sea bus to North Vancouver
The Van Dusen botanical gardens ( I was there in December and it was amazing with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights but the gardens are huge

The queen Elizabeth park with the Bloedel conservatory

Grouse mountain
Capilano Suspension bridge with the Treetops footpath
Canada Place
The Chinese Garden ( Dr ?? Sen??)

The maritime museum with the St Roch.

Lots of things to do !!

:)

Regards

Sailor for the record the room of people I was just assisting in a presentation to now want to know why I exploded laughing....as credit card fraud detection in the sports betting industry usually isnt a subject that arouses much mirth. I think they've twigged that my attention was elsewhere.

Ah they could use a laugh this lot anyway.

Right then Im off to hunt down a pub called the 'Frog and Firkin' (honestly there are firkin pubs here) to check if they are showing the rugby this weekend, oh and I may have a quick one whilst Im there.

Jacq - didn't I see somewhere that you're flying into S Fran and then onto Vancouver? If so, why did you choose that route over flying into Vegas and connecting from there?
