Antigua

Has anyone been to Antigua lately(winter months)? We went a few years back (Feb) and had approx. a total of 1 day of rain in two weeks. We were looking at Antigua or similar again, but everytime I have looked at the weather forecast it shows rain, rain and more rain. Have they had particularly wet winters lately or are the reports just wrong?

Most of the online weather reporting tools will show rain for Antigua on a daily basis as it usually will rain most days of the year (usually in the wee hours). However that rain will be brief (5-10 mins) and usually highly localised.

For a small island it isnt unusual to drive from north to south to find it has been raining on one part of the island with brilliant sunshine on the other - thats partly due to the topography and partly becuase West Indian rain clouds are too laid back to travel very far. You can sometimes see the line in the road where the rainline stopped.

However, the months of Dec 05 and Jan 06 had a particulary heavy rainfall that was very unusual for the island, coupled with some overcast skies and cold weather (cold is needing jeans not shorts).

I left to travel to Canada two weeks ago and it was beautiful when I left.

So take the online reports with a pinch of salt.

Hi I was out there for the cricket in 04 early April and we had one half day of torrential ran, rest was fine

As Adam lives on the island I would say he has a better knowledge of this than me,but I have found that most of the islands get a "shower" every day,this of course helps cool the day down for you and also gives you an exuse to go have lunch.

As with any place the weather will do what it wants,nothing we can do,but unless your looking to travel during hurricane season the carib has great weather most of the time.

Agree with Dave - never known it to be raining all day - usually its a shower and then goes back to being sunny.

As they say on the islands - the rain is just "liquid sunshine"

Hi, I'm a frequent traveller to ANU and recently got back from there. Traditionally late october-feb is when the island becomes less green due to less rain, but the past few years haven't really been like this.

Most of the time, any rain that does come will come overnight when you're asleep, don't ask me why because I don't have a clue[:p], and as has been said most showers in the day will be brief and can be considered refreshing;), of course there might be the odd day where it keeps raining on and off.

I was in antiga & tobago in jan and it did rain for about 4 of the 8 days i was there

Tabago is much hotter and only one day of rain
but i do find antigua a nice place even in the rain:D
