MAC cosmetics

Anyone know (boys or girls!) if MAC has a concession at Gatwick south? I'm fairly sure I've seen one, but just been to the Gatwick site and it isn't listed.

And I'm getting low on stuff and would hate to pay rack if I don't have to.....[:$]

I'd actually recommend you find a MAC store when you get there as they are $9.00 for an eyeshadow as opposed to £9.50 here. I know duty free is a bit less but with the exchange rate and all. If yu're going to MCO then there are stores in Mall at Milennia and Florida Mall. Hope that helps.

No, I couldn't see it there either, but was sure I'd seen a stand before and bought stuff there. Ah well.... just passing through Orlando Jacq, it's just the closest to Hitlon Head we could get with Virgin! Never mind, will just HAVE to do some store shopping at one mall or another - yep, dollars for pounds.....

I usually have an email list of 15 items (at least) from my younger sister on every US trip. Apparently, it saves her around 50%... [:0]

They work out even cheaper if you buy them in Canada, plus getting the tax back makes it even better value ....after all it's hardly a chore to make sure you spend more than $50 :D

I found getting the tax back in Canada a bit lengthy and it turned out to not really be worth the trouble. Hey - maybe I just didn't spend enough at one go! [i] But you ARE right, Canada is even better value - and since I'll be going there as well later in the year - oh hell, just have to do more shopping, I guess....

Yeah, it can be a bit of a hassle having to get all the receipts stamped, but once I've posted them all off I've never had any problems. It takes a while though .... I'd usually completely forgotten about it by the time it turned up on my cc statement!

If you've not found it worth it in the past, then you clearly haven't been trying hard enough in the shops

Is it only Canada where you can get tax back or is it the same for USA? Never even considered that before [:?]

I'm sure there are many other countries in addition to Canada that kindly give tourists the tax back .... sadly though the US of A is not one of them. Although having said that, as the taxes are state taxes, there may be some states that do ... just none of the ones I've ever been too. Or if they do, it's been a very well kept secret!

Good point:D - but isn't it the case that you only claim for times when you've paid over CAD200 for something and not amounts adding up to that amount?

Unless things have changed since my last trip (back in 2003), each receipt only needs to be $50 or over, before both taxes are added.

Hmmmm, where did I get the $CAD 200 from, I wonder? Last time I was there was 2004.... but $50, think I might manage that amount far too easily...

Looking at this site it seems that your total spend on goods (inc accommodation) must be over $200, but each receipt should be $50 - both amounts before tax. So that'll be where you got the $200 from.
