A good read?

OK, less than a fortnight from our hols in Barbados and a boy's thoughts start to turn to what he should be reading whilst sipping a Banks on the beach and basting himself in factor squillion sun lotion. Basically, anyone got any recommendations for what paperback/s should be finding their way into my hand luggage next month?

I had the Vince Flynn novels amazon with me on the cruise,good reading,just have to read them in order.

Also David Baldacci,im enjoying the heck out of The Camel Club Amazon link

It comes down to personal taste,what type of books do you enjoy reading?

It comes down to personal taste,what type of books do you enjoy reading?

Bad as in tragic or bad as in a let-down? Don't you often find that though with his books?

I'd also welcome tips, as my mind is creeping over to a good flight book. I've just read a James Patterson one 'Honeymoon' - a crime, not a romance - oh no, thanks very much. Read it from cover to cover, almost without stopping.

I might get the latest Tess Gerritsen one - also crime LOL. But anyone got any good thoughts?

Anything by Dan Brown - although it might ruin your holiday as you won't be able to put it down!;)

A Dan Brown book can't ruin your holiday - it only takes a morning at the very outside to read one.

Don't bother with Deception Point - such tosh...

Oh well it has to be Patrick O'Brien. All that swashbuckling,hosery and breeches has got to be good for setting a girl's or boy's passions aflame in a romantic location.

Sounds like his modus operandi. The most recent book of his I've read was Tommyknockers.... now, all his stuff gets a bit weird and sometimes totally surreal, but I just couldn't get through this one - not often that happens.

Haven't read any of his - think I might just be the only person on the planet not to have read the Da Vinci Code - and I've thought about doing so, but then, being perverse, I decided I didn't want to follow the crowd and do the in thing.

Well I must be the other person Cat.Just can't get into Dan Brown at all.Am ploughing through the Patricia Cornwell novels (in order)at present, with Tess Gerritsen next on the hit list when I'm done.

Oh, my last book before James Patterson was a Patrica Conrnwell one. Great author (ess), but I find I need to concentrate more closely! Have you read any of Tess's books yet?

Phew - am glad I'm not alone with Dan Brown. Figuratively speaking..

Thanks jetwet1. Had a look at both those links - proper airport/holiday fair, might give The Camel Club a go. As for Mr. King, gave up on him years ago (WAS a big fan - 'It' scared the bejesus out of me!).

Tried Da Vinci on recommendation from Mrs. mdvipond - contrived and not as clever as it thinks, gave in quite quickly. At the moment I'm packing a Tom Holt, a Jeff Noon and the latest Jonathan Coe. That's nowhere near enough for a sloth-like 2 weeks on the beach though. By the way, my own recommendation - 'The Time Traveller's Wife' - sooo good.

But no haven't read any of Tess Gerritsen's yet (as I bought ALL Patricia Cornwell's novels in one go -14 including the new one Predator).Am currently on numero 7- Unnatural Exposure.Good job I like them. Did the same thing with Dan Brown- big mistake -pile of books getting dusty.Seems there's a few of us who've given The Da Vinci Code /Dan Brown the thumbs down.Thank heavens for that -thought I was a bit of an oddball.

No still can't fathom this out-cut and paste is beyond me too (why does nobody believe that I really really am technologically incompetent?)

If you're into crime thriller/horror type stuff try anything by Stephen Leather or Shaun Hutson. Careful though, some of them are rather descriptive;)

You're not wrong! I read Stolen Angels by Shaun Hutson a while back - was good though!

another recomendation - Harlan Coben, read a few of his books now - "tell no one" is a great place to start.*

haven't read any Stephen King in years, will have to look for that one. One of my fvorite books is "The Stand" by Stephen King - brilliant.

Yep read that one too - was as good as the first!


there's a third book in the series being written now...... can't wait to read it!

The Da Vinci Code is good but Labyrynthe by Kate Mosse ( not the other Kate Moss!!) is along the same theme but a much better read - I bought it over a year ago in hard back and now its the top selling book!!!
