I have booked to go to Florida through Jetsave. They tell me my baggage allowance is 1 piece at 20kgs, I phoned Virgin who told me it is 1 piece at 23kgs, the website says its 2 pieces at 23kgs. My ticket just says 'pc' in the 'allow' field.

Does anyone know what the true answer is please [?]

I would say that your allowance is what your airline tells you it is, rather than your TA.

As usual I stand to be corrected, though :D:D

See this thread for a very recent discussion about VS baggage allowances.

Welcome to V-Flyer, Steve.

The "pc" on the ticket simply indicates that you're on a "piece-based" allocation for baggage.

If you look at this page, you'll see there are two types of allowance - one by weight, the other by piece.

If you're travelling in Economy, you have exactly the same allowance as any other passenger in that cabin (where you purchased the ticket from is irrelevant in the case of baggage).

From 1 April 2006 we are making some changes to the baggage allowances on our flights.

On transatlantic, Caribbean and Nigerian routes, we've adjusted the allowance for Economy class to 2 pieces at 23kg per piece, Premium Economy and Upper Class remain unchange

Thanks for your help on this. I dont know about flying in economy, I get the impression we're one or two classes down from that, the way I'm being treated - I havent been able to check my booking or reserve seats online, as the TA booked our family as part of a group apparently, so I have been advised to get to Gatwick the day before we fly to check in and try to get 4 seats together for the family !

Wishing I'd booked the holiday myself on the internet now.[:#]

Hi Steve.

You should be able to call VS reservations direct and get some seats reserved for yourselves. I recently booked my first ever Virgin flights with an agent and wasn't too confident that they'd allocated seats for me (even though they said they had). So I called Virgin, and they sorted it all out for me. All you need is your name, route, and flight dates.

(and I was right, the agent hadn't reserved seats for me, so don't trust whatever they say!)

This is very interesting and I'll be honest in saying I dont actually know the answer to this one however here are the facts...

1) Your Travel agency/company Jetsave have informed you that you are allowed 1pc at 20 kg, I would suspect this is a standard letter as this is the allowance for most Charter companys and may have seen MCO as destnation without checking to see who the carrier was.

2) when you contacted VS they may have missunderstood your question as what is the weight per bag? which indeed is 23kg. From today 1st April the new airline policy on direct sales are transatlantic, caribbean and Nigeria economy 2 x pc at 23kg All other routes increased to 23kg

On flights to and from the US, the Caribbean and Nigeria, gold members are allowed one extra piece of luggage (up to a maximum weight of 32kg when travelling in Upper Class or Premium Economy, or a maximum weight of 23kg when travelling in Economy). For all other flights they are allowed an extra 20kg above standard baggage allowances in each class.

sometimes travel companies may agree in the sales agreement for more or less allowance which could be the case with Jetsave.

3) on your actual ticket it states PC therefore the ground staff will know that you are on the pc concept and allow you 2 pc at 23kg. Well that is how I would interpret it as ex-groundcrew.

Hope this helps
