Just back from 5 days in LV with some mates. We had top fly with AA as it was the most direct route and at the best price. I have to say one thing about AA - They are bloody terrible in economy. Food 1/10. In flight entertainment 0/10 (it was awfull). Service 3/10.

If you wanted a glass of beer / wine they charges $5 or €5 - complete rip off. Seats were unfortable with no leg room.

On the return flight with their partners American west we were told the flight was over booked and that they could not promise we would get on the flight - In the end we did but they made us sweat. When I got to Chicago I had had enough and paid 600 dollars to go "business class" - In row 2. Service was ok and food average. Seat was only like BA World Plus with a little more leg room.IFE as a personal DVD player which made is nearly impossib;e to watch when the food arrived - Over all AA are bloody awful. Thank god we stayed at The Wynn Hotel , simply the best in Vegas by a mile.

Wynn Las Vegas was under construction last time I was there, It looked mighty impressive even in it's half built state!! Steve Wynn certainly is a fickler for detail!!!:D

Shame that AA didn't meet your expectations!! ;)

To be honest I did not really care going out but coming home it was not good to be told about "over booked flights etc" - They are snot the best to be straight up with you , in fact far from it. Its a real shame as it looks as thought no American airline hits even a 4* rating now.

Book YUP fares, the AA first class domestic service is rather good, and excellent value.

Totally agree with you - I used to fly AA an awful lot (Executive Platinum Plus AA member) but they've been going down hill for 4/5 years now. At least next year they're offering new business product though still no flat bed.

One thing you can say is that the route network and frequency is good, the FF scheme is OK to good, but in flight and especially transatlantic it's absolutely rubbish compared to VS.

Hope you go direct form LGW next time!

I'll stick my hand up and say that while AA is nothing close to VS in service, they are generally predictable. I do quarterly transcons with AA and no, they're not what they used to be, but very few carriers really are what they used to be.

The other problem is trying to compare US-based carriers to the European and Asian-based standards.
