No aircon above center isle UCS seats (A340-600)

Last month I returned Upper Class from LAX-LHR. First thing that struck me was the huge number of UCS seats, must have been 50+. Anyhow, there are basically three columns of UCS seats leading from the bar. What I discovered is that there were no air controls that I could find about my seat, which meant it proved to be a very hot and uncomfortable night flight back. [B)]

Anyone else experienced this?

I didn't think the newer Airbus' had any blowers anyway? I know Air Canada's A330's don't either... [:I]

Yeah they do, my colleague had aircon controls and was bathed in cool air as I sat gagging for water. Thought it was a mirage! [B)]

I always thought that les s than ideal. I have the blowers right on, as I get quite hot otherwise.

Due to the configuration, even if there was cooler twisty turny button things, I would need to stand on my table to reach them. Now that would be a site. [:o)]

Maybe Virgin should introduce coolers around the UCS seat like a jacuzzi bath without the water. [:?]

I noticed on my recent RTW trip that no passenger gasper vents were installed on any SQ aircraft, nor on QF 767s (ex-BA ones anyway), nor on ANZ 747 or 777s.

A benefit of not having them is that the cabin is definitely quieter due to less hissing air, the downside is that the cooling in the cabin ends up being more "one size fits all".

They definitely seem to be falling from favour on many airlines, as beside making for a quieter cabin, they also are one less thing to maintain.

If you are hot and uncomfortable, tell a member of cabin crew. It's much easier to cool the cabin down and for the colder people to have an extra blanket, snuggle up under their duvet, or put on a sweater. What's the other option? Stripping to your underwear?

Having said that, I was on a VS flight where a girl in the next suite slept in just vest and knickers, but kept herself covered up with the duvet... no-one said anything.

So I'm guessing that some of us will be asking for the temp to be turned up in the future.

I just wish airlines would have ones that mimic the ones on the DC-8; they were on the seat in front of you so you could easily control them and they could be focused on you more.

I like Mikes Idea!!! After all if youve got it why not flaunt it ? After all if on A non v-port you can keep yourself occupied.

Seriously though back to airvents, It occured to me that though there may be no airvents on the A346 center seats there are in W and Y ?

As for the cabin temperature from a crew point of view the girls are always cold (but thats nothing to do with aircraft... goes back to cold feet in bed ....etc) but the male crew have extra layers in the form of a swank looking unpracticle waistcoat!! Youll never please every one...The downside is because we are running around we can notice when its cold untill customers mention it.. the aircraft are set between 22 - 25 as default we can only change it within these ranges

25C is insanely hot for a night flight, IMO. Mind you, the APU had failed on my VS22 flight last week, and getting on the plane we were hit with a wall of heat -- it must have been 30C or more. Even three cold glasses of champagne were not enough to keep the perspiration at bay.

Golly I read 25C too ... I never have my air conditioning on at more than 21 or 22 if I have a cold! No wonder we all get hot ... and need to strip to knickers (don't ask, you aren't missing much!). Seriously though, I often do get a little hot and shall we say moist under the arm pit, now I know why ... oh for a cooler temperature and cashmere cardies for the crew.

Seems to me to be a semi serious thing,different people like different temp's,at least with the controls you can have a little difference.

Before you get any ideas..Please Mt Mcuth..no boxers and T-shirt please.

If there's no means of individually changing the temperature then I would hope that cabin crew would turn the cabin temperature down as low as possible. After all, people can always put on more clothes or use a duvet, but even stripping to my skivvies I'm alays going to find 25C too hot!

Or add a laser sight [i] to the nozzle so that you are not up and down like a jack in the box just to get some airflow on your face!
