I apologise for yet another Tier Point question. I have searched through the forum and read the guide. I think I have the answer but I just need to know if I am right or not !

I became Silver on 28 December 2005. Therefore, using the V-Flyer guide on TP, this is my "M1" date. I now have 13 months to either achieve Gold, or retain Silver.

Currently the VA website is telling me I need 26 more TP to reach Flying Club Gold
I need 30 points to reach Gold by 31 Dec 2006
I need 35 points to reach Gold by 31 Jan 2007
I need 40 points to reach Gold by 28 Feb 2007

So, as I only need 26 more TP's to reach GOLD, surely this means I have already re-qualified to retain Silver, once the system completes it's sweep this coming December. Which essentially means I will be Silver until December 2007.

Can somebody confirm, correct me on this please?

Thanks!
Jon

Jon, I assume you retained silver in Dec 05?
Given the dates below you will need another 10 TPs by 28th Feb 2007 to retain or 40 to move UP to AU the TPs dont zero they have a 13 month life hence only needing 30 to hit gold by the end of the year.
ie the 10 you flew to retain silver are also good to get gold

I think thats right but as always ISTBC :)

Hi Jonny,

Sorry, I think you may have read the old guide on the site to TP's. The old terms of M1 etc are no longer applicable. For the new guide (VTPG) as such, take a look at the top sticky post in the Clubhouse section. You will be able to view the VTPG as you have bought a membership kit (thanks!).

Given that you qualified for Silver on 28th December 2005, you have until 31st December 2006 to earn 10 Tier points to retain Silver status. This calculated as explained on the VTPG, that for the first renewal year, you get from theday after you qaulified until the end of that month, plus 12 months to earn the required number of points (in this case for Silver, 10). So for you, the first renewal year is 29-31st December 2005 (remainder of that calendar month) + 12 months, which takes you to 31st December 2006.

The figure for reaching Gold should not be considered for retaining status. Remember to move up to Gold you only have to earn 40 TP's in any 13 calendar month period, now if you're doing a bit of flying, 15 of those 40 may be the 15 you used to get to Silver status.

Hope this makes sense,
Richard

Richard,

I have read your new guide, which is great! I think I get this whole TP earning issue now! [i]

Just out fo interest, this is my table of qualifying fights, from 19 Oct 04 where I dropped from Silver back to Red. So in effect I started earning again from 01 Dec 04.
So I do have some TP's already in the bag to retain Silver if I don't make my way to Gold. That is correct...right?

Hi Jonny,

Glad you like the new guide, a certain airline likes it very much too [:I]

Looking at your statement, you do have 5 TP in the bag already towards requal for Silver (from your return sector in Upper Class). If you were to earn another 26 TP before the end of May 06, you will hit Gold as you currently have 14 TP active towards moving up a tier.

Thanks,
Richard

Thanks Richard,

Looks like I will be able to retain Silver with the flights I have planned this year, but just don't think I am going to be able to do Gold.

I think your guide explains it much better than the Virgin website, but still takes some head work to understand it!!
Cheers
