Hi all,
I was browsing eBay and noticed this VS safety card

If I remember correctly, the 340-600 heading was purple, and only had "Safety on Board" once.

Does anyone know why this change was made, and if it's fleet-wide?

It does look as though VS did some visual changes to the card, lord knows why. VS talk about cost cutting and they do something like this.

On the new seats on the A340-600 the saftey cards are placed in the magazine rack and seats sideways, so by having safety on board on the sides means passengers can identify the card quicker in an emergency.

Strange but true!

This card matches the new cartoon style safety video (with Jim Reeves as one of the voices), so was probably brought in at the same time.

Not sure when that was changed though

I suggest that either there was a change in rules at the CAA or with the intro of the new (or test of) Y and PE seats a new safety card was needed.

Not sure if it applies to the new Y and W seats but when UCS was fitted, new cards had to be produced as the location of the life jacket and floor lighting had changed slightly.

I still think they could be made clearer as the cards mention the brace position but what do you do if you are sat in UCS [:?] I presume that's why UCS seat belts have the built-in air bag but I dont think there's any mention of the air-bag either on the saftey cards.

No, those cards and that safety video have been around for several years now. We're talking about that extra title on the right hand side of the card, which had not been present in the previous version shown here. Looks like the question's been solved though.

Edit: Oh yeah, didn't notice the extra UCS information either, so I guess it wasn't just an artistic change afterall.

Air New Zealand's safety video for their suite-fitted aircraft show the brace position for the UCS as:

* Feet up on the ottoman, knees together.
* Spine flat against the seat back.
* Brace knees against the back of the seat in front.
* Put your hands on your knees.

Given there is the airbag fitted, I guess that the classic brace position for an exit-row or bulkhead isn't suitable.

Cheers,
Mike
