This is going to sound really stupid but I have to ask. I was just speaking with a customer on the phone who just came back of holiday and we got talking...To cut a long story short they mentioned virgin and the clubhouse at LHR. I've never been in so don't know what its like but he said to me if ever I get the chance to pay to go in do it, as your make the money back in the food/drinks/haircuts you can get.

Does this mean once your in the CH you don't pay for food/drinks? Sounds strange to me?

Yes, once you're in, all facilities are free.

Unfortunately, you can only pay to enter the LHR CH if you're a Virgin Holidays Passenger (or free if you have a certain card/ticket that allows access). There is no option to "pay on the day" at the LHR Clubhouse.

This payment to VH, from memory, is about £60-65 per person - so I'd genuinely question whether you'll get your money back these days (it used to be only £30).

Also, bear in mind, I don't *believe* the spa treatments are included with VH paid access - but ISTBC. All other elements are, indeed, free of charge.

We paid to get access to the LGW lounge when travelling to Barbados with VH a couple of years ago, then it was only £30.
We were not entitled to any treatments but other than that it was all free.

Having recently experienced the LHR clubhouse as an UC passenger would highly recommend it too !

I recently paid £54 (with my 10% FC discount) to get in, and while it was nice, it wasn't worth all that. You'd have to drink and eat a lot to get your monies worth in there, though it was nice not having to put up with all the noise and people outside.

WOW!! Didn't realise this. Always thought it was a bit steep to pay £60 to just get away from the crowds but doesn't look half bad now.

Ta!

ISTBC but fees for VH customers are currently £35 at LGW and £60 at LHR (minus any FVC/FC discount). It's a nice perk albeit a costly one if travelling with a family (and under 12s are not permitted as fee paying guests).IMHO the LGW CH is looking a bit tired -maybe that's because the revamped LHR CH looks so good (although I've only seen the first phase of the renovation and not the recently opened second phase)!I wouldn't like to think of using the CH as a "getting your money back" exercise -remember you've still got to be fit to get on the plane so even though you pay no additional costs for food and drink while there "over indulgence" could end up being pretty costly (if VS won't allow you on board). It can get quite busy too at peak times although I believe things have eased a bit since phase 2 has opened.

I believe your prices are correct Dragonlady, although as always ISTBC (which seems to happen all too often these days[:I]). I have done a few rough workings and I think Mcuth and I could give the £65 a run for its money. As for the £30 - Eeeeeeasy! We could do that in burgers alone.

However if they would allow us on the plane afterwards is a good question. But, hey, there's always a flight the next day!

Well the CH is much more exclusive than your average Burger King, so I would say that a burger at rate card in the CH would be over double BK. So that's about £12 a pop. So it's only 3 burgers to well and truely cover your £30. Yep, I think I could manage that. Even better of course would be 2 burgers and a mcuth blue, in which case you still have room for a chablis or six. ;). Quids in!

As you can see, style dining is my middle name,...not.

I thought I had an enormous appetite but it seems like I'm a mere amateur compared to you lot -still I'd prefer the chablis over the grub any day.Have yet to try a mcuth blue- will someone be able to rustle me one up on the RB Shuffle?

Have yet to try a mcuth blue

Same here, well until Sunday:D.

If we ask for a mcuth blue will we get the standard blue lagoon or will they mix mcuth's favourite?
mcuth's favourite recipe is out of the Bombay Sapphire menu book:
1 shot Bombay Sapphire gin
1 shot Vodka
1 shot Blue Curacao
1 shots fresh lime juice
1 shot sugar syrup
(again, alternatively, use Citron Vodka in place of the normal vodka)

I can absolutely get £60 of value out of LHR, LGW or SFO clubhouse. Just in Gin and Tonic and burgers.

Very very easy to do mate - I think I've pretty much had my value out of every CH visit, even if that's just measured in Bombay Sapphire ;) Never been refused boarding either :D

Thanks Jeremy, but I'm sorry Julie, I'm not intending to be behind the bar on the boat - under it, maybe ;):D BTW, I actually used to be a barman many years ago.

I'm afraid you're likely to get a "standard" blue lagoon - though for some reason the SFO CH blue lagoons always taste much better than anywhere else. I'm not quite sure why this is (though it's probably due to the use of the excellent Absolut Citron) - for some strange reason, I can barely remember the recipe when I leave [:I]

Cheers
