can someone teach me poker!!

I know the basic rules but have never played for cash!! and would like to be brave/confident enough to try!!

Ok here's what I would say to do..

Go to this site and order this book

Read it and learn it.

Next when you are in Vegas or any card room, sit back and watch what the players are doing, this is a quick way to learn the betting cycles.

The site I have linked to also has a very good and funny story section..read that, you'll see what "tells" are and also some of thingsa other players will do to you.

Most casinos offer free craps lessons (well most of the ones I've stayed in do) I've never taken them up on the offer though. From what I've seen it seems to involve a lot of cheering and jumping up and down. :D

Most casino's offer a basic craps lesson, along with other games as well,of course the best way to learn is to take the lesson, watch for a while, then put down some of your hard earned cash.

Ive taken Craps lessons before, cant stay i can actually remember all the rules now, other than knowing that 7 and 11 are your friend. Craps is just one of those complicated games that generates a lot of excitement, and as much as i fancied mastering the rules it just didnt seem to stick.

Blackjack however, is very easy to pick up, as is Roulette, especially when you realise that the way to do it is not to lay your chips on the board but to place neighbors bets with the dealer!

Thanks,
Sarah

Blackjack - good game with some element of skill
Poker - not good at - tend to smile when I have a good hand and cry when I dont - so not for me
Craps - see above - clueless
Roulette - complete mugs game and the one with the most "show" but also the one where the casino owners must just rub their hands in glee!!!

I must be one of the rare few that have a flair for Roulette then; i have actually had some very big winnings with the game and rarely come out with a loss. Yes its showy and its often a n00b game as the rules are not difficult, but i have always found it very easy to double my bets with Roulette.

Seems you need a break in Vegas for some practice?

Thanks,
Sarah

Yeah - now theres a good idea!!!!

So whats your strategy then Sarah - numbers - spread bets? black/red oddeven??? 00?

Mind you - maybe you shouldnt say on here case Dave sees and "marks your card"!!!!

Dave has already marked my card LOL (Well, marked my players account as me being a laydee at any rate)

My strategy? Not sure that i have one as such, but i have my favourite numbers that always seem to come up. Basically, i always keep a chip on the zeroes and do my betting using neighbors bets by five with the dealer. Whatever numbers seem good at the time i go for, but i also check the board to see what has come up recently, its not uncommon for a 42, 36, 36 etc to come up several times in one go. If im sort of chips i'll bet a stack on either Red or Black, easy way of clawing back some more moolah.

Funnily enough, im not really a gambler (says she who is a member of the Grosvenor Casino LOL). I can easily go to Vegas and not gamble a single dime, which is good as there is more to Vegas than the slots but it doesnt hurt to have a flutter while you are there

Thanks,
Sarah

Pai Gow is a game for drinking, lot's of hands where you don't win or lose so more bang for your buck..

Just an FYI..the house theoretical on your normal double zero roulette game is 5.26%,on craps about .3%,however,get a good streak going and those 35 - 1 payouts can add up very quickly.

Good point Dave. When you play Roulette in Europe the steaks change all the better when there is only one Zero on the wheel! Shame our US cousins did not keep it the same [:(]

All this talk is whetting my appetite for a return to Sin City

Well certain casino's do have a single zero wheel,MGM,Mirage,Bellagio and the Wynn, however those are all high limit games,$25 min bet..the Start is the only casino with a lower limit game $10 min.

Please not that NO caino in Vegas offers passe..that is where if the zero hit's you only lose half your even money bet, here you lose everything.

Have to say that with single zero, a neighbours track, low minimum bets and the passe rule, roulette here in blighty beats the Vegas game easily. All of the above is available on all the wheels at Rendezvous in Southend, for any Essex residents out there :).

Tend not to play roulette at all in Vegas now. By the way, there is also a single zero wheel in the Crystal Room at Mandalay Bay (and that has a neighbours track on it too). High minimums in there though.

Don't say you're really an Essex girl Sarah?

Is it really the Ferrari owners' ball you and Richard are going to, or the XR3i owners burn up?
