Copenhagen.. what? where? how?

So Mrs McCoy announces that she wants us to take a trip to Copenhagen next month - gawd knows why.. although I know nothing about the place.

Anyone got any basic starter pointers? I don't even know what airlines fly there - I suppose BA do..

Best of luck, I know Easyjet fly there, if you don't have an aversion to LCCs.

Expect to be disappointed by the Little Mermaid statue.

Nick, Easyjet fly there from Stanstead, which is really awkward to get to from Edinburgh. BMI fly direct, but at a cost (an 0700 departure!) So it looks like BA may be the choice, via LHR.

I've been to CPH a few times for work - airport is not too far out. CPH is quite an expensive place though - I always tend to stay at one of the Radisson SAS properties. The Royal is very moderna nd trendy - very Phillipe Starck, and of course 1000FC miles PER night.

Richard, the Radisson SAS has everything to do with the great Danish designer Arne Jacobsen who did in the late 50s and 60s everything that the likes of Starck and Schrager have attempted to do in the last 10 years.

The hotel probably counts as the world's first designer hotel, replete with interesting fittings and furniture, from the lightshades down to the famous Swan chairs and the cutlery in the restaurant that made an appearance in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The best rooms are corner ones where two walls house windows overlooking Tivoli Gardens. I'd also recommend the design museum for more insight into Danish design.

There are plenty of eating options but don't expect food or hotel to be cheap. Oh, and the Little Mermaid statue is not worth seeing although the walk there is pleasant enough.

Stayed at an SAS hotel myself.
Theres loads to do for a weekend too!

I thought Christiania was worth a visit although its changed a lot over the last few years! Tivoli is worth a look too

Let's get down to business ... there is the Carlsberg factory
to check out and sample the many products that don't
actually seem to exported much from Denmark. Like carlsberg
elephant beer for starters.

Tivoli gardens is great at night in warm weather for a romantic stroll. I was unfortunate enough to be with one of our salesmen so it spoiled the effect a bit, well a lot really.
Apparently the Carlsberg factory has a home brew kit on the wall in a glass case with "in case of emergency, break glass".
Maybe an urban myth who knows?
Had a Carlsberg in a cafe in view of the brewery and it still cost about 10x the cost we pay in the UK.[:0]

Mmmmm Elephant Beer. "B¿f og Ost" used to be a good restaurant.

If you are stuck at the airport there is an excellent steak restaurant - served on wooden boards type of place. Lovely quality and quick. Its upstairs in the middle section of the airside area. Highly recommended. Its called something like Mr Cow (its not that but I cant remember)

I would agree about the quality & speed but the portion of chips, which cost extra, was one of the smallest & meanest I've ever encountered.
