Hi everyone!:D

We are thinking of taking a holiday in CA in the next week or two and were wondering what the weather is going to be like in the coming month. Normally we visit in august-october so we have no idea what it is like at the moment. We are looking at San Diego and LA. Any comment?[:?]

Cheers,

We used to visit that time of year (LA mainly) for many years not so much recently as we now prefer the fall or later. The weather can be a little unpredictable in April, it really will depend what weather systems are in the SoCal area during your trip. It should be warming up a bit but will be too early in the season to rely on good weather. As Mark says, watch the forecasts and hope for the best.

As mentioned earlier, the weather in April is mixed. We have had sunny and high 70s and rainy and low 60s. The one thing that you will notice if you go in April, having only been in August and October, is that the Southern Californian countryside can actually be green instead of the usual yellow grass everywhere and also wild flowers are out in bloom.
San Diego has a more steady climate not being too hot or too cold all year but it is still more of a gamble this time of year if you are only going for sun. We have found that Palm Springs tends to be warmer and sunnier in April than areas towards the coast. Hotels may be busier though as Summer is not the high season as it gets well into the 100s so people go in Winter/Spring.

Thanks for your replies. Would people still recommend it at this time of year or should we turn our sights elsewhere?

In late Feb/early Mar San Diego was warm and pleasant, although the wind did get up one day and made things slightly chilly. I have usually had good weather in San Diego every time I have been, which is usually around March time. San Francisco was raining last time though...

Husband flew back from LA last week-said he'd gone out to work but came back looking tanned .Guess that means weather was OK.

Hi VS045,
I think that if you are looking for sun and warm temperatures, you should also think of the Palm Springs area. In April it will be probably as hot as 90F during the day, and 70F at night.
