In line with VS then.

During my VS Y flights, everytime my carry on luggage was weighed and accepted at between 7 - 8Kg, so VS also dont seem too concerned with carry on weight either.

No - according to the BA website this is 'across the global network'

Also - only 1 bag checked in per passenger for non-US, Canada, Caribbean, Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico flights.

You know, what ever happened to the safety aspect airlines kept bleating at you if your carry on weighed too much? I remember being told a couple of years ago that the 5kg limit on one airline was 'CAA rules' and that turned out to be complete BS.

Then it was only a few days ago BAA were trying to get folks to check more baggage.

It's no wonder we're all confused when consistency is nowhere.

Still, for cabin baggage it's good news if everyone follows: after all if you're carrying a good book and cup of joe you risk being over the carry-on weight limit these days.

BA's new policy has all gone a bit LCC!

However the really bad thing will be if VS follow suit, particularly by reducing the UC limit to 23KG from 32.

VS would never let an unlimited amount into the cabin, and i can't believe BA have.

I have seen on many occasions, and had to deal with, over weight luggage fall out of the over head locker and cause serious injury.

I still can't get over the woman on an internal (US) United flight trying to lift a huge suitcase into the overhead locker.

Do people really need to take so much on as hand luggage? Book, some shopping, a laptop, camera, makeup and stuff. Really what are these people expecting to do during the flight?

I know the argument about getting out quickly without having to wait for luggage which is fair enough. But half these people wait for bags anyway.

BA are not letting unlimited amounts in the cabin, your main cabin bag must fit into the gauge 22"x18"x10",if it doesn't fit it gets checked.

If you look at the detail, you'll see it's actually been covered by BA in their statement ;)

Passengers must be able to lift their bag unaided into the aircraft overhead locker.

It is laughable that VS and BA to a lesser extent,will not allow me to take my(correct sized)carry-on bag on board when in Y or W but it's fine in J of F, we must have thicker sculls when upfront:D.
This only ever happens if I do not check any bags when in Y or W,Check a bag and no one ever looks at or insists my carry-on is weighed.Oh and of course I can go to duty free after check-in and buy a couple of glass bottles of plonk they couldn't possibly damage anyones bonce:D

No, belive me, the size of the bag DOES NOT limit the weight.

I've been in the business long enough to know this.

Small bag does not equate to small weight. You would be staggered to see what some people put into their hand luggage. On a regualr basis i see bags that fit the dimensions weighing 15kg+.

The best i've ever seen is a 26kg that fits the dimensions of the VS rules.

In Economy you could have upto says 9 passengers using the overhead lockers but in Upper Class you have maybe just one or two people.

So the allowance can be more at the front as people can carry more as less using overhead space!

does this make sense?? sorry not sure if I made it clear.

For me, if VS instituted a similar rule for Au and UC it would be a serious problem, I think I'm in the same boat as a number of people on Flyertalk have commented. I often do a week's work, then two week's holiday in the US. One advantage of this is that work pays my fare so I only have one other to buy (the no. 1 obviously). Being away for three weeks with one week of work requires a lot of clothes, shoes, electronics, accessories. Then, added to this we buy a lot in the US to take advantage of price differentials ... strange items from Rembrandt tooth paste (50% of the UK cost and we buy x20 tubes a time) through to Tod's driving shoes (similar reduction). So often we go out with one bag each weighing 25+ kilos and return with two each (don't tell HMCE [:(]). Then of course the Au extra allowance ensures that if we shop some more it's OK. So I guess my plea to anyone listening at VS HQ is, if you match BA in UC or for Au's I will seriously find another carrier with a more relaxed policy, and you know it certainy ain't going to be BA.

Then as well I figure if I'm paying £2k to £4k for a ticket the hell I should be able to take a bit of luggage with me and certainly more, I'm sorry to say, than someone in Y.
