Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but there's a TINY one-liner on the back of this month's statements:

Global Assistance
Please be aware that from 17 October 2006 the Global Assistance service will no longer be available

Umm... They kept that one quiet! [?][:0]

Hmmm, another cost saving? Or recognition that it's not providing the value intended ... there was some chat not so long ago and I recall mixed views about whether Global Assist was a benefit with at least one saying they proved very useful.

No real lose to me as I've never used it.

Same here, but what's to bet the minute it's gone I'll find a need for it? :D

Never heard of it to miss it in the first place.

I tried to use them once in relation to a travel issue, and they were downright useless. Won't be missed at all.

Thanks,
Richard

I have used them a couple of times to find hotels. Pure laziness of course, as I could have done an internet search myself. In each case they were good, coming back with web links and short descriptions. On a recent trip I set them the task of finding and apartment hotel in the main business area of Abu Dhabi within 2km of a particular place. They did it, and I ended up staying in their recommendation.

So I for one will be sad to see it go. Judging by the reactions to Global Assist on this site, and the general lack of conversation about it on our site, I suspect it got very little use from members of Flying Club. As such, I suppose we should not be too surprised.

Er... what does it do anyway?

It comes with FC membership - possibly only at the higher levels, I can't remember. You ring them up, and they will research the answer to pretty much any question you care to ask (theoretically) about your travel plans. In my experience they go primarily to the internet for their information. As such you could do it yourself. But the benefit is the time saving. The problem is that if you do not ask a specific enough question, the answers may not be what you are looking for.

Used them a couple of times to find restaurants when I'm in a strange town, that sort of thing, and they have usually come up with the goods.

It's one of those things that you'll probably miss at some point, once it's gone.

Cheers,
Mike

Never used them, never really knew what they did to be honest...

Cheers!

Never mind, good people, when the service stops, you can just call Answers Direct instead.
