Some of you may remember I questioned the ability / inability of upgrading with miles on the day back in April.
After my parents hadnt been given the opportunity to do so at LGW

Well I am pleased to report that on Saturday they checked in for their PE Reward flights to Dubai and upgraded to upper for just 10k miles each!

Miracles do happen! (A little faith restored!)

Just a little feel good itme for an iffy Monday Morning!

10,000 miles for a PE to UC upgrade is pretty good, normally it is 20k for a one-way if I remember correctly. Well done to your parents - good result. Hope they enjoyed the luxury.

PE reward is 60k return and UC is 80k return so 10k one way for an upgrade sounds about right.

Not quite. See here

Round trip mile upgrade "prices" in miles:

Economy to Premium Economy 20,000
Premium Economy to Upper Class 40,000
Economy to Upper Class 60,000

So normally a one way upgrade from PE to UC would be 20k miles.

(PS - the prices to Australia are higher)

Hi Sailor,

I guess we're just looking at it from different angles. Monkey stated that the PE flights were reward flight so I am assuming the difference between a PE reward and an UC reward - hence 10k one way. If indeed the PE were revenue fares or they were treated as such then I guess 20k one way would seem more likely.

Either way Monkey's parents did well - it's a shame Monkey's uncle was not flying - just to provide an ideal expression of surprise. :)

If you don't mind my asking Monkey do you know what fare-code they were booked on originally? My parents were on restricted PE tickets at LHR and the system wouldn't allow the upgrade to go through, even after having it agreed by the staff. They are really clamping down on restricted fare upgrades.

Thanks

They were non revenue reward seats fozzyo. IMO they did well, they were travelling with friends in Economy booked in x and they upgraded to PE for £200 each (one way non FC members)
so they all got the use of the lounge as the friends went as guests.

I am just pleased for them they deserve the upgrade and the break.

By the Way Family Man
Sadly Monkey doesnt have a flying Uncle!
