Has anyone else received a letter from AMEX Membership Rewards re: Flexselect?

Basically they are offering a credit facility on charge card accounts whereby any transactions over £200 each can be put onto a credit balance. There is no charge for this facility, just a stinging 17.9% APR. You can also still pay the balance in full if you wish.

The attractive benefit is 2000 bonus rewards or FC miles if you’re linked up. I have no interest in using the facility but for a free 2000 miles, I’m there! You need to respond using the form enclosed with the letter and by a set date.

If anyone wants more info on Ts and Cs etc then let me know. No links on website that I can see.

God are they pushing this feature again - I remember the first time round they tried. Again the APR is abysmal.

One feature that is not offered to Centurion cardholders though.....

Thanks,
Richard

Have you heard anything more yet? Or any points credited? I sent it off this week...close to 20,000 miles again so might as well take advantage as it saves buying the extras.

Just an update:

I received a letter today to say that Flexselect had been activated on my account. Yes, but what about the rewards?! ;)

I then called AMEX to find out the likely lead time on the addition of the 2,000 reward points. Apparently there has been a huge uptake on the offer due to an increase in miles whores [:I];) and they are working through a backlog. However, the chap did say within the next two weeks :)

Same for me Jacq - we wait (and wait, and wait...)like we did with the 20,000 offer.........
Such a cynic eh?

Funny you should mention it...just checked and they're there [8D]. So that was a week's turnaround. Not bad!

You heard anything on yours yet?

Hi Jacq,
This "flex" feature seems to be automatic on my AX Platinum account. As Richard says, however, the APR is downright rude.

No extra points to soften the blow either. Of course, if I was being totally practical here I'd suggest that one consider the cumulative finance charge cost versus the value received from accumulating points. In most cases it's not often that the points win out -- except when you get the points and pay the charge balance promptly.

I have this on my plat amex - the problem i have is that there is no obvious way to avoid putting any purchase over 200 quid on flex-select and running the risk of interest. My amex is direct debited to avoid any problems, but they don't DD the flex stuff.

Anyone know how to avoid 'flexing' your purchases? [?]
