Need to book a hotel for one night only (a Friday - damn) in September. Will just be somewhere to lay my weary head en route, so I don't want to pay Bellagio/Wynn type rates, but neither do I want a dive. Any thoughts, all you Vegasites????[?]
I dont know if the Palace Station is still open. I stayed there a number of years ago after driving up from San Diego....big beautiful room for 30 bucks.
Its a little off the strip and seemed to be full of locals, but it was a great one night stop over.

I'm not sure that priceline will let me make a bid - at least, this certainly used to be the case, you had to have a US address.
I've booked for the night at the Atrium Suites - but just had a look at some reviews and they're not great. I think I might have to re-consider. Sigh, just when you think you've got it sorted and under control....

Priceline.co.uk no longer operates inthe same way as priceline.com - it's now just another search engine....sadly
Our friend jetwet1, Vegas moderator, is being modest. Why not try the Stratosphere? Prices are reasonable and rooms clean. You're on the Strip and close to all the fun. Added benefit is that you may actually get to meet Jetwet1.
Also, some other sites where it is easy to view availability: http://www.hotels.com and http://www.expedia.com. On both sites you can sort responses in price order.

Hello everyone,
Priceline.co.uk still has bidding, you need the use the Name Your Own Price link on the frontpage to access it though. Or here's the direct link :- http://www.priceline.co.uk/pcln/nyop.
It does seem that most, if not all, sites quote the same prices. Whatever happened to competition?! But I'll have a look at travelaxe, as I haven't yet tried it.
Interesting point Chuck, about the Stratosphere. I didn't realise until very recently that that's where Jetwet1 earns his daily crust. Maybe he isn't much impressed with it? Or maybe it's just a healthy comtempt lots of us have for where we work...[}:)]

Travelaxe searches around 15 travel websites - like hotels.com, travelworm, trip reservations etc - and the prices here do vary quite a bit. You do have to download a bit of software from travelaxe as well - which is a free spreadsheet program which is used to display rates.
they are often much cheaper than booking direct - but be careful of cancelation policies.
Remember if you have played at a casino before - always ring and check the 'casino rate' a discounted rate for players.
Also if you intend to play quite a bit - anything booked through a travel website cannot be comped by the casino concerned.
Re the strat - I must admit having stayed there for the past 3 years. Its a great place to stay - comfortable rooms - go for rooms in premiere tower or world tower (not regency tower).
Its also very reasonable - always one of the cheapest on the strip and as cheap as neighborhood casinos. But still could be around $110 on weekends and holidays.
The people there are great - from the pit bosses (Dave and co), dealers, bartenders, valet, restaurants and players club - only downside is VIP services - I wont say any more than that.
DONT be put of by people saying its the wrong location and dangerous. Just be aware of your surroundings. And if you wanna get out on the strip - just get a $8 cab to somewhere like Stardust of Circus Circus and walk along south to all the other casinos.
Its a bit seedy behind the Strat - but hey there's no need to ever venture there.
If you go there check out Crazy Armadillo bar before it closes for good - and say Hi to my friends Erik and Scott.

I was a bit put off by travelaxe, as they wanted personal details. I just have a bit of a thing about that and tend not to want to just hand these over, when all I want to do is make a search!
No, we don't 'play' - have tried, but find it hard to just funnel hard-earned dosh into machines! So yes, I'm aware, to some degree, of the comping thingy - and that I'll never spend enough to make it worthwhile!
Thanks for your help Armadillo, I was aware of the location of the Strat, but we're only doing a stopover for the night.
