Just booked my Dubai trip.

Question is, I'll be needing a new laptop in the next few months, is it worth waiting until I go to buy one?

Firstly are they compatible with the uk (ie 240v, etc)?
Secondly are they that much cheaper?

Cheers,
-Steve

I didn't think they were that much cheaper as I too was in the market for one. In addition most of the models I saw had arabic as well as western script on the keyboard, although I am sure it would be possible to get one without the arabic wotsits

As honey says, I would not wait. There are no bargains to be had in UAE with computers. I suggest you treat yourself to a nice new racing camel instead.

If you're after a high-spec laptop & are going to travel with it often, you might want to ensure that it is UK spec [+ keyboard layout] to avoid problems if you're stopped at UK Customs with it.

A friend of mine bought a US spec laptop, so with US keyboard layout & paid all the necessary VAT & duty on it [still made a saving]. He got stopped with it on his next trip without the receipt from the previous trip & had to go to great lengths to convince Customs that he had paid the necessary duties & VAT. Needless to say, he carried a copy of the receipt for a the next few trips, until the laptop was suitably out of date / lower spec so as not to arouse any interest.

No, you'll have to ship it back. Suggest you go for the 'desert ship GT turbo' it has super-grip hooves and the sports hump.

Do camels have hooves? [:w]

Not according to this website

Feet
Camels have broad, flat, leathery pads with two toes on each foot. When the camel places its foot on the ground the pads spread, preventing the foot from sinking into the sand. When walking, the camel moves both feet on one side of its body, then both feet on the other. This gait suggests the rolling motion of a boat, explaining the camel's 'ship of the desert' nickname.

Sorry to spoil your fun [:p] Quite the killjoy, aren't I?

Not a killjoy at all. The ones with feet are slower, which is why I suggested one with hooves. You see, in the camel world, hooves are like 17" alloy wheels!

Well, you can buy check patterned saddle cloths now. And Halfords do a Razr on-camel hands free kit now. Quite where you are supposed to plug in the cigar lighter adaptor I don't know though!

OMG ! [:0] a check patterned saddle cloth...cool [y][:I]

It comes as a major surprise that this thread has of course gone of topic, but I have to add,as some of you know im thinking about getting a new car (this will go on for a couple of years till I make up my mind, don't ask it's just the way it has to be)and one that came up was a mini.

For some strange reason I thought that a Mini with a Burberry roof [:0]

Chav's are an unknown thing out here to most so I could have a little fun with it...Of course the next time I was flying down a freeway with SUV's on all side's I figured that a Mini may not be the best car to have here....anyway's..back to the topic,I most now go to a $th of July party hosted by the cops that live on my street who are about to set off all the illegal fireworks they confiscated over the past year [y]
