If I spend 80,000 miles on two economy tickets, one for me and one for my wife, to, say, Dubai and I have two upgrade vouchers for spending more than £10,000 with a black card will I be able to upgrade both tickets to premium economy?

I think there would still need to be availability in U class ( PE reward ) for this to work, as the reward needs to come out of the appropriate class bucket ( Economy reward is T class ). So if you've got 2 rewards in T class and try to use the reward upgrade, there must be 2 reward seats in U class for it to work.

Happy to be corrected but otherwise it would mean skewing the numbers of reward in each class.

I've just converted and it said my new card would be here within three weeks

What do you do in between those 3 weeks? Carry on with the MBNA Mastercard? Or do they shut that down as soon as you apply to be transfered?

just carry on using it till the new one arrives and then cut in half.

it'll still work until you activate the new card when it arrives.

If you convert your account from Mastercard to Amex - Your original Mastercard is live for 3 months to run side by side with your new Amex version. :)

REALLY!!! So there is no better way then but to transfer immediately rather than run 2 cards. I would have cancelled my Mastercard before October anyway due to my annual fee being due again.

I thought the new 'black' card got 6000 bonus miles, not 10,000?

From Richard's original post of the 1st page:

"If you convert from the existing card, you will get 6000 bonus miles on first retail purchase (10000 if done before 15/9/06)"

The 10000 miles is limited only to existing holders of the Virgin Mastercard, who are getting details in the post. I guess the extra 4000 miles is a carrot to stop anyone changing away from MBNA / Virgin once their existing cards stop working at the end of the year.

Just done mine and they said new card and PIN within 7 to 10 days. And that will include a card for the present Mrs Treelo too. Were you not asked about other card holders at the time of your application ade99.

Incidentally, is there a problem in retaining the MBNA MasterCard for use (obviously non-miles earning) in establishments where AMEX is not accepted [?]

i converted mine just by calling the freephone number and it was automated.

didnt speak with a human so couldnt mention the additional cardholder - but will call them to make sure they send two cards out.

I didn't speak to a human either. I think I might call them as the other half will not be pleased if he doesn't get the card and can't go spending all my money.

I just looked at the VS website intro for the new card. The APR on the white card is 17.9% but on the black card it's 37.1%, now I know it also says it includes the fee but isn't that still a bit high (or maybe I never normally look at credit card sites that much)

expensive way to borrow - and that apr is more than store cards -- never use this card for that.

just pay off each month - the fee is worth the benefits

Have any of you managed to find out what happens with your existing miles - are they transferred to the new one???

This link may help with most peoples questions:

Oh oh - fly in the ointment - Only 46 days Interest Free and payment required 10 days earlier than current card. Could be awkward as I normally pay my card after I get paid. Will have to check to see if I can move the statement date.

poor you!!! [:#]

maybe yours got lost in the post!

they say that everything gets moved over - so everything you've earnt on the existing one - counts on the new one - like annual spend for the companion.

except the new upgrade thingy - cos thats new I imagine

Cat, do your miles not already get transferred (monthly) to your FC account?

I read somewhere that dealing with MBNA is a nightmare - I am now going through the nightmare - it has to be one of the most unfriendly automated telephone answering systems I have ever come across.

God forbid when I get the card and I have a query!!!

The high APR is a bit galling, but hopefully it'll encourage me to pay it off every month. The benifits though are very good..

Blimey- wonders will never cease!!:D:D:D

MBNA just called me back and said they are sending the card and PIN in the next 7 days with a really good credit limit.

Now the trick is - I have to pay for my VH holiday on Friday - can I hang on til the card comes to rack up all those miles[:?]
