I thought it worth relating my tales of changing a booking with VH using the call centre this weekend and the subsequent use of the FVC. I was lucky enough to receive a little extra cash in my bonus than I was anticipating, so decided to fritter it away on a surprise (one way only mind...) upgrade to PE for the 3 of us.

Positive 1: Though I could see from the VH site that PE upgrades were available, I first wanted to check that we wouldn't be scattered throughout the cabin (or even downstairs...). Called the Frequent Flyer line, and the agent happily gave to the information I wanted, i.e. could do a 2 and 1...

Positive 2: the agent at the VH call centre was efficient, took a great deal of care to explain the cost of changes to my booking (down the credit card fee [:(!]) and put up with my dithering brought about by Negative (1). Anyway, I finished up upgrading us to P/E and added some excursions (what's money if not for spending ?), FV discount deducted with no problem.

Negative 1: the PE upgrade cost me more than list in that it eliminated some of the flight discounts that we'd had on our original booking. This wasn't a mega deal holiday - just a regular booking - so I was a tad disappointed by this. That said, it wasn't sprung on me just in the total; the agent took time to explain (hence the dithering)

Negative 2: I checked the VA site to then get my seats assigned. To my (slight) consternation, it was still showing economy...2 hrs later, 12 hrs later, 24 hrs later...Anyhow, it was too hot to do anything, I had to support my partner in her participation on the "Run For Life" and anyhow I couldn't phone when she was in the house (would spoil the surprise). Decided to wait until FVC opened today Monday...

Positive 3: Rang FVC at 9:00; by 9:15 had my seats assigned.

Would've been nice to have no negatives, mind, but I was impressed with the VH call centre agent at the time.

I shall do a TR following the holiday, and we shall see if my sunny disposition :D continues should I find them flogging PE upgrades on the day for a couple of hundred quid...

Just a point about your second negative, VH only do an "update" to the VS site once a day, so depending on when you call it could take 24 hours or so for the update to go through. I had the same concerns when I did an update but after speaking to VH and waiting a little bit longer it was all fine :)

I did wonder whether I was being a tad impatient, particularly it being a weekend (notorious for system downtimes) and end of month (notorious for systems being temporarily closed off for accounting processes to complete). I think it was the fact that the time I did this last year it was almost immediate(or seemed so) that raised my anxiety levels.

It all got sorted in the end, and (this must be some kind of record) I have all tickets and vouchers in my hand four weeks before the trip ! The day after speaking to FVC, the flight tickets arrived at home...too many buttons being pressed by someone ? I queried this by email to FVC and they (within 24hrs) reported that it shouldn't have happened but to minimise the potential for further issues they would have all my holiday vouchers sent on, and 24hrs later I had the complete set.
