I would like to do this too. I contacted MBNA who said that I can, but that benefits that I'd started earning (ie working worked my companion flight) would not be carried over! So I've stuck with the White card for the moment...

I received details in the post yesterday and reading the benefits which say £7500 spend for companion ticket and £5,000 to upgrade ticket so does that mean if I spend £10,000 I get companion ticket and two upgrade vouchers or one or the other - do you choose? Spoke to MBNA and Members shop but no-one could confirm 100% what it meant. MBNA said that this is how she read it. I wonder if this is right.

I understand it means you get both. There's nothing to say it's one or the other.

I have to say the MBNA auto line was very efficient - let's see how quick they get the cards out!

Slightly miffed that only last week i booked a J class return to Sydney - but hey - hindsight!

Andrew

p.s. my letter also had my old FC number

Andrew,

Unless you're flying shortly - I guess you could use the new card to book another J fare and then cancel the other one? Assuming the one you've already bought was a J fare ticket and not a discounted fare ( D or Z )

My letter also had my red FC number. These are still linked automatically ( in case I go back to red ) and I've been getting miles to my Silver account no problem at all.

You will get both.[y]

Also, anything you have already spent on your existing Mastercard
counts towards the £7,500 companion reward 'threshold'!

Thanks for that - that's a much better deal than the Mastercard although I have already reached the £15,000 spend, just waiting for my year to be up.

Best Buy does but Amazon.com is cheap; especially with Prime (the super special verison of Amazon.com that is not a Centurion benefit[:p].

Hang on a mo,I know from reading this thread that for some the changes just are not going to work, but switching to BMI,isn't that a little drastic, wouldn't the BA card be a better bet?

That's where my thoughts are heading....

I've just been reading the FAQ's on flying club (I hate to go on and on and ON, but still no letter or email!) - it says something about asking again for details of your earnings. Those of you who have had the invite and responded to the voicemail automation - is this something you were asked?

Presumably then, all I'd need to do is call the number with my current card details? And if it's voicemail, I could also do mr cat's?

Anyone here still[oo] got the number????

sure. it's 08000 856 524 I did not get a mailing but another member in the household did. I've called it and done the conversion in about 2 minutes. However, it automatically changed me to a 'white' card as i am non fee paying at the moment but i spoke to an agent who happily changed it to a 'black' card and confirmed i will get the 10,000 bonus points!

apparently the additional cardholder changes automtically when you change the main cardholder.

I will have to give that a go then, last night I was told this wasn't possible.

Just phoned back. It is possible, and the agent needed to email another team. Advised not to do the phone transfer, and it'll all be done for me. You'd think this would be a common question and could be dealt with a lot better though.

What number did you call to upgrade your non-fee paying Mastercard to the new Black Amex card?

I just phoned to change from non-fee paying MC to black Amex and got told that I should wait until the miles from my MC get posted to my FC account before I change. The agent said I would lose them otherwise.

Apparently, once I change to Amex, the miles from my MC can no longer be transferred. Has anyone else been told this?

Thanks,
Neal

Do you mean the expenditure from your Mastercard (towards the issue of an upgrade/companion voucher)? Aren't the miles credited to your Flying Club account each month?

Hi all [y]
Could someone point me in the right direction please. I don't seem to able to locate the details of the extra 2000 miles if you use the new white card before 15th Sept on the Virgin site.

Cheers

You can quite easily change you payment due by date by changing your billing date at any time (with any credit card as well). It does, however, usually take at least 6 weeks to filter though but it can be done. Once you get your first statement just give MBNA a call and give then your required payment due by date and they will update your billing date accordingly.

It will take at least 1 further billing cycle (possibly 2) for your payment due by date to update so you will have to bear with your current due by date for a month or so.

Regards

Advice gratefully accepted plaese!

I have the MBNA fee paying Virgin card ( 2 miles for every £1 spent) at present.I really don't want to have the Virgin/Amex card so could just cancel, but would it be worth paying the £115 fee just to get the inroductory offer of 10,000 miles?

ie is £115 'good' value for 10,000 miles??[:I]
