Hi all [y]
Could someone point me in the right direction please. I don't seem to able to locate the details of the extra 2000 miles if you use the new white card before 15th Sept on the Virgin site.
Cheers

It's not on the new site, it only applies to members who transfer from the old mastercard to amex, as explained in the letter from MBNA to existing cardholders. New customers do not get it.
Are you an existing cardholder?

Yes I am an existing cardholder but I have not received anything through the post notifying me of the bonus for taking out the new card.
Thanks for the replies

You don't need to wait for the mail to come through the door.
Just phoning the automatic migration number (08000 856 524) with your card details will do the migration as an existing cardholder - there is no new credit checks etc to perform and the procedure takes about 90 seconds.
When you do the automated telephone migration - if you presently have a non-fee card you will by default receive the white card. If you have the fee card at present you will receive the black card. These are the default options and cannot be changed on the automated conversion line. The literature that comes through the door also seems to reflect this - white card literature for non-fee customers, black for fee customers.
If you want to change from non-fee to fee or vice versa, you should call MBNA on 0800 056 7686

With either the black or white card can the complimentary companion reward flight only be earned on new accounts.
I signed up for a Virgin Mastercard when they were first issued and earned and redeamed a complimentary companion reward flight back then.
I suspect that the complimentary companion reward flight is only available to new accounts or for accounts that have not yet earned a companion reward.

No, existing earnings count towards companion award.
From http://uk.virginmoney.com/black-card/terms.html or http://uk.virginmoney.com/white-card/terms.html
"A year is defined by the 12 month period starting from the date you opened your original Virgin Atlantic Credit Card account. Spend for the year on your Virgin Atlantic MasterCard will be carried forward and included when we review your eligibility for a companion reward flight."
Non - Fee - Mastercard -> Converting to Black Amex, rather than White Amex.
Has anyone managed to do this route yet, preserving the conversion to a Black Card benefits (ie 10000 miles on first purchase, £7.5k for companion, £5K upgrade reward, 6 per £ on VS, 4 per £ on Retail until July 2007)
If so can you advise which department you need to speak to, currently keep getting transferred.
Thanks.

Well I've just phoned and was told that I can convert to Black but it will be treated as a new application and I would not get 10,000 miles as 'it's not what is being offered by the transfer'. The lady said I could move to White immediately, else it would be dealt with by a separate department.
I insisted that I was aware of people who had been told they could convert and retain all the benefits. Her manager said this was not right but she would investigate further and get back to me in the next week.
This could run and run.

I tried to do this earlier today by phoning the number givebn earlier. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. Once I'd explained what I wanted to do, the agent asked if I'd received the letter (I haven't yet) and then said that changing from a non-fee Mastercard to the Black Virgin/Amex card would not be possible. I'm going to wait until I get the letter then try again.
Anyone know what happens once you've received your new AMEX card but are asked to present your Virgin Mastercard at check-in for an eticket flight? A couple of weeks ago flying back from Rhodes they were very hot on this at BA check-in, clearly all was fine as I still have my Virgin Mastercard! On my eticket confirmation for a UA flight in September it clearly says Photo ID and the credit card used to make your purchase must be presented at check-in.
Presumably it is pretty routine to have your credit card replaced/upgraded in the period between purchasing an eticket and taking the flight so they must make exceptions to this rule?

Just thought I'd recap on my experience contacting customer services on the previous 0800 number given.
I have the non-fee mastercard at present and received the White card offer on Monday. I rang today asking about moving to the Black card. The agent said I could and I would receive the standard 6,000miles but not 10,000 as that is invite only. Essentially non-fee to fee is treated as a new application. He confirmed all spending amounts up to the 15,000 threshold etc are retained and that your spending since the card anniversary of your mastercard counts towards the 10,000 required for a premium economy upgrade.
So in my case I am not far off of that so the advice was to stick with white, reach 10,000 spend, get premium economy upgrade and then switch to black and transfer balance. Although I then need to spend 7,500 to get companion reward, I would also be entitled to another premium economy upgrade after a 5,000 spend on the black card. So in effect I would gain this way.
Also, he confirmed the standard 6,000 for getting a black card would stay until the end of the year.

I wonder if you can convert to the black card, grap you 10k miles and then cancel it before your next aniversary. Suspect not - I imagine you will be signing up to a new anual agreement.

Maybe. I had a fee-based Bank of America card and canceled and they prorated the fee. Wait til the miles post and cancel. IIRC the Black are cost about 10 quid a month...

this was one of the questions i asked the operator when i phoned up yesterday her reply back to me after putting me on hold to find out the answer was
"yes i could cancel the card before July 2007 without incurring the £115.00 fee "
so hopefully if need be this should be OK to do

You can quite easily change you payment due by date by changing your billing date at any time (with any credit card as well). It does, however, usually take at least 6 weeks to filter though but it can be done. Once you get your first statement just give MBNA a call and give then your required payment due by date and they will update your billing date accordingly.
Ah - thanks. Not really a problem, I had just wondered!

Ah, someone else out there whose postman/email delivery person is playing fast and loose! I haven't had anything either Trev, but I used the number someone else kindly provided here, and yes, it was very easy. It asks for your current account number and date of birth, so I'm very much hoping they get it right about the bonus miles....[?]

What a very good point! Especially since the advice is to cut up our old card when the new one arrives.
If anyone here needs to call and speak (maybe about getting a black card), would they like to ask the question and report back??? Please?[^]
I've never yet had to show the card I paid for my VS e-ticket with.
Nor me, but you can bet the next time will be the first!
