Upgradeable ticket cost?

Hi,

Been with flying club for a couple of years now but as I only fly once a year its taking a while to rack up the miles. Anyway, my girlfriend and I are of to LAS & LAX in September for our weddingmoon so we booked the flights through VS a few weeks ago. We could only afford economy but have enough miles to upgrade to PE.

Basically, I didn't realise at the time that the economy lowest tickets you buy on VA are NOT upgradeable. I rang Flying Club up afterwards and was told I needed to purchase a flexable ticket to be able to upgrade, but there wasn't space anyway so didn't get a price.

After pricing it up though a flexable ticket is twice the price as the regular one so what the heck is the point of that? I would have been cheaper booking a straight PE flight etc with VH than paying for a flex ticket on VA and then using my miles?

Hope that makes sense as I'm confused with that now.

Generally the cheapest upgradeable economy ticket in L class is considerably cheaper than the cheapest PE fare. Maybe you were looking at the "fully flexible" Y class fare.

When you say twice the price, I'm guessing you're meaning a fully flexible 'Y' fare?
Like FamilyMan has said, 'L' fares are usually a lot cheaper. I recently changed a Q/Q ticket LHR-SFO-LHR at the end of this motnh to B/L for £140 extra.

L fares are coming in around £590 if flying midweek or £620 at weekends around that time so £50 more than an M. Cheapest PE is £990.

Sorry what I meant was the lady on the phone at Flying Club didn't give me a cost to upgrade as there were not seats available anyway. She said though I needed to book a flexable ticket via the site to upgrade, so this is what I tried pricing up to get the price.

Ah right, that would explain the high price, think the site automatically quotes Y fare when you put 'flexible'..could be wrong though.

How does one go about finding the cost of an 'L' class fare?
As mentioned before the Virgin website usually quotes a 'Y' class fare.

Decker has already provided the current L class fare above. The best way to get the actual fare for your date is to call VS.
