My friend was actually one of the supervisors on this particular flight. The main problem with the food is that VS regulations regarding service of food means that it must not fall below a certain temperature. On this flight food was not fully cooked before the diversion and but could not be reheated.
I don't think anyone is faulting the crew here. They did the best with the tools they had, and chose to into discretion, rather than cause the flight to be nightstopped in SNN.
I don't disagree at all with the hot food being thrown away. Food poisoning isn't nice, as others have already pointed out.
I'm guessing the "packet of biscuits" the OP referred to were the "shaved down" second snack service.
My critism as usual is that VS shot themselves in the foot (well, our beloved VS beancounters did) by shaving down the second food service so much that the crew were left with nothing else to give out.
My thinking is that if the sandwich meal was still provided, then the crew could have served that.
Yay, way to go, VS' shortsighted beancounters!
