How long has it taken from calling to get the new card? I have an extended car warranty to pay for soon, and I'd obviously rather spend the £1500 (ouch!) on the new card... Warranty payment due by 26th July. Will I make it?

think its taken around a week for the first batch of cards to come thru for most.

however they messed mine up [:(]and have been waiting 2 weeks - and expect another week wait. Though they have changed my online account to amex.:D

If they can do it in under 2 weeks that would be great. I was just put off by the phone message that told me it would take 3 weeks - I presume thats just them covering themselves?

yep. On friday I checked online and my virgin card was the same mastercard account. I then phoned and they said it won't change for a week or two and could take 3 weeks (plus the week they messed up)![:(!].

however I checked on sat, and it had changed to amex.:D

Has anyone managed to swap to the black card from the non fee m/c? After a few attempts MBNA tell me they have done it, and I now have a new account number on line, so just waiting to see what turns up. [?]

I was told they would phone me back within a week to confirm whether you could move - but inevitably the phone hasn't rung.[:#]

So I have transferred to the white and just regret giving up the fee paying card last year.

I'm interested in the suggestion that you can have both cards at the same time - I see a cost benefit analysis coming up!

I've flagged the 'issue' of moving from a non-fee card to the Black card with the right people at VS, as I experienced the same issues. Hopefuly should get a resolution soon.

Thanks,
Richard

The shiny black plastic arrived this morning so it was exactly 2 weeks from applying to landing on the mat.

Had a letter middle of last week with the pin number ( which stays the same, think that is the same for everyone!!)

Been a race against time had to pay for our VH holiday bill due last Thursday. Rang MBNA and explained the situation they gave me the 15 digit card number I rang VH customer service in India !!! Gave them the details and told that it would have to be done on a request but wouldn't be a problem.

Guess what - it was- [:#] They rang from VH credit in Crawley to say it had been rejected and to contact MBNA. Did that Friday AM went back to VH and told them MBNA say it is ok VH ring them and about 20 minutes later get confirmation all is well.[y]

Had to be with all those miles riding on it LOL

Regards

Paul

Er.......well, lots of them do. Ever tried to buy a car using a card without being asked to pay more? Even at VH it will cost you 1.5% more to pay by card than by cash - so whichever way you look at it that's a discount for cash over card.
Even those retailers who do not ask for a premium for card payment will be open to a request of a discount for payment by cash (chain stores excepted). Try it.
What's more, in order to pay that 1.5% you will have to earn 2.5% upon which you will suffer income tax (at HRT I presume!) leaving you with enough to pay that premium of 1.5%.

Cards arrived this morning and activated tonight, the gentlemen on the phone was very knowledgeable and explained everything, including the bonus miles you can get. Again 10/10 for service [y]
Time for some spending and sitting back to watch those miles come rolling in :D

Cheers

What gentleman on the phone? Mine arrived yesterday and I called to activate it - automated service, no real people at all!

Also - I was looking at contact phone numbers. On previous cards, there's always been one to contact in case of loss/theft of card, but I can't see one for this card. The closest I can get is to call customer services. Anyone know differently?

:D

At long last (well only 2 1/2 weeks) got my PIN.

I did try to check that it had remained the same - but must have rubbed the PIN off as well by mistake.

least I know from everyone else on this thread, that they are the same as before..

now just wait for the card!! They promise it to be black - here's hoping .....

Got my card yesterday, rang just now and used the automatic option to activate card, entered card number, date of birth and then all set! There was the option to speak to someone before and after, but all in all took about 2minutes.

Perfect!

Just realised why I'm not fussed on amex- went to buy Mr DL a nice new shirt today in fave shop and handed card without thinking.Wouldn't process- assistant then said "oh it's American Express-we don't take it.Grrr.....Never a problem with the old MC .Might get bonus points for spending for the next year but it seems as if the spending bit is going to be the problem around this neck of the woods.

Oh the Hilton Dubai Creek said that if I wanted to pay via AmEx they would be happy to call and get manual auth. as their machine was broken for AmEx auth. UA Visa worked fine.

Where were you trying to buy the shirt? Since this whole thing started, I seem to have become obsessive about checking whether stores take Amex. Most of the big stores do and lots of restaurants too. But travelling to continental Europe might well be a different story.... I, for one, am keeping another non-Amex too....

Nice boutiquey place locally -apparently charges from amex are prohibitive so they don't bother. Most of the supermarkets are Ok as are big department stores-quite a few local restaurants I use (we're 20 miles West of Cardiff) don't take it either for the same reason.Oh well off to the states in a few weeks-sure I can find some nice places to use it there!!
Tesco plat lurks in my purse as the trusty reserve!

Well I still can't get to upgrade my VS mastercard[:#][n]

I phone the money shop and they confirm the upgrade offer and put me through to MBNA upgrade dept. They say they can't upgrade because there isn't an 'icon' on the screen an my account to upgrade but the new applications dept should be able to do it and then transfer me there.

New applications say they can get me a new card but not upgrade me (with bonus miles)and transfer me back to the upgrade dept who transfer me to the virgin money shop who transfer me........etc.[ii]

If it wasn't for v-flyer I would have no idea my VS mastercard was going to change. I appear to have fallen through the the MBNA computer systems black hole.

The latest call to the money shop said invitations to upgrade were being sent out in batches. Why do I think it's only me in the second batch and I still won't have heard anything by the September deadline.

I have now given up and will wait to see what happens.

I'm trying to decide whether that is better, worse or the same as falling through their white hole.
:)
I'll get my coat...

In regards to a previous post of mine I managed to confirm the bonus signup miles amount (which has probably already been discussed but you never know)
Re: the Black Card
10000 miles for existing mastercard FC owners
6000 miles for new customers

Another thwarted attempt to spend some cash today-not just once but twice! First in Superdrug, with a basketful full to the brim of holiday lotions and potions.Card wouldn't read despite the assistant putting it in and out several times. Then she looked at the card and shouted the immortal phrase to her colleague "we don't take American express do we"???...Answer was obviously not. Off to buy some petrol following this and the auto-fill facility wouldn't accept the card and kept flashing the message "card error".I gave up in the end and used the faithfull tesco mc instead.
Maybe we need to start a new-thread called "Where to use your new card."?
