While I understand where you are coming from with this post I would ask that we please end it now.

IMHO the original topic was way out of line and as you can see by the responce to it the majority of the people here agree with me.

Well what about a slightly more scientific poll to establish the average size of this group, and how that relates to airlines planning for the average passenger in realtion to aircraft weights and seat sizes?

It always makes me laugh when i get in a lift (Elevator) and it says "Capacity - 15 persons / 1000kg" - 15 of me would have us plumetting earthwards at a rapid pace!

What is it with the people on this site and there obsession with people's weight[?] Why does it matter - what a pointless topic[n]. As jewtwet said, the first topic was bad enough but now another one, I dread to think what the next topic on size could be about....[:w][:o)]

Agree, these sorts of topics are crossing a line into "very personal" territory and whether about VAA staff or PAX add just about NOTHING [V] to the value of this site in the sense of what it was set up to do, and I for one would like to think that we can keep a high standard of debate on this board.

Can I politely suggest that this, the crew question and any similar future ones are locked and removed, and if anyone has a problem with that, then I suggest they take it up off-line with the mods (if of course the mods agree;)), and leave the site open to discuss more beneficial matters?

Just my opinion of course...[}:)]

Well they (Mods) haven't taken action so far, so maybe they are leaving it open for fair discusion.
My opinion though....BIN IT

[y]Agree with Jetwet - the site shouldn't be used to demonstrate any prejudices that already exist unfairly out there.

Whilst I'm sure it was meant as a harmless joke, what next, jokes about race, religion, sexuality and so on.

Maybe there should be a 'members only private board' for any posts that could be considered offensive by some, say like an 18 cert?

or maybe I'm out of touch with the majority ?

Well there is already a "members only private board"> It's called the Clubhouse ;) Even there offensive posts would be considered by the Mods as to whether they should stay or not

Y'know peeps the board has fairly relaxed rules on most things. As mods we can only act if something is in blatant breach of forum rules. Where something is borderline we have to rely upon the fact that the majority of our contributors are adults with commonsense and know what is and what is not acceptable. Sometimes a fine line is trodden. It may well be that the OP in the OT was asking a serious question but phrased it badly. For example I see that Virgin Blue received an employment tribunal slap for discriminating against older people. Perhaps the question was designed to see if VS employment policy has been modified. This particular topic is plainly vexatious but again breaches no forum rules.

So as mods we'd just ask that we all try to keep the forum harmonious and ignore postings that fall outside of the fora spirit.

Have to be honest, I dont think this particular subject has been "out of order". There is always talk of pilots getting younger, (BA) cabin crew looking older, and so why do we create a complex over this topic? I think we need to relax a little... also take into account that there is an issue now whereby as a race we are becoming larger - both vertically and horizantally. So perhaps its a natural progression?

ok ;) and some minors the majority of whom seem to have more commonsense than their adult peers at times:).

And Clayts - I suspect the point is that this forum is designed for the discussion of "All things VS" but most people would like those things to have a point. We could discuss the lavatory habits of left handed piscean blonde male flight attendants (aged 27-29) and still remain within the letter of the forum. Whether or not FAs are getting bigger is sufficiently frivolous and intrusive to be deemed irrelevant by the majority of posters.

Fair enuff Decker... it just appeared to me that the complaints were not so much about this being a VS forum but more the actual issue of size causing offence.

To remedy this I can tell you a story... My mum use to be cabin crew for an airline which started a serious recruitment drive a few years ago for people with foreign languages (any guesses on airlines?). One small problem with this was that they forgot to check that the people spoke English. So on a flight from Milan to London, my mum (the FSM equivelant) asked this foreign speaking member of staff (in English) to cover the back exit. The member of staff apparently walked off down to the back. About 10 mins later when pax were boarding my mum went down the back of the aircraft and was horriffied to find that the staff member had proceeded to use blankets to cover the back exit of the aircraft from top to bottom, using seats, parts of the galley and anything else to hold up the blankets - it was like a real childs tent! Needless to say the staff member was off-loaded (in the interest of customer safety) and never worked for the airline again.

After reading... I am not sure if thats so funny, but looking back at it Mum always smiles.

too funny! Ah the fun we have we language misunderstandings... it's even worse when developing software. My client told me that when he pushed button X nothing "append". So I scour the code and as far I could see there was no way that the data wouldn't be appended. So I sent it back for further testing. Repeat loop 3-4 times. Eventually turned out he was omitting the H - so not that nothing was being appended but that nothing happened at all.

A good friend of mine met his Wife when working in a casino in Turkey. Keep in mind she perfected her English around British casino staff. He didnt think twice about how she comprehended some of the phrases she learned until being sat at the Sunday lunch table with his family on a trip to Manchester she announced to the table that she needed to take a p**s and asked where the bog was.

He said the look on his mothers face would stay with him till his death bed.

34" for me!

On a slight side note, it looks like the signature fonts disliked their waist sizes, and have now shrunk to unreadableness.

Ha ha ha ha! Reminded me of when my mother started saying "toss off" all the time ... apparently she overhead my father and thought it a fun term, he wouldn't explain the meaning properly so said it was a humorous way of saying 'go away'. So she did, until I put her right and proper!

No changes made to the style sheet - perhaps you've reduced the default font size? (think that's ctrl +/- or cmd +/- on a Mac)

I tried doing that, but oddly it changed every font size except for the one I wanted.

Maybe it's just the font in Clayts' signature that's tiny.

34??? You bunch of lightweights! No wonder i have complaints about the size of Y seats. 42 here, but 6'5 to go with it, so it doesn't show.... honest [:I]

Language is a funny thing. I went to buy a Korean Mobile Phone with one of my Korean Colleages. His english is good, but his accent at times is a little strange. He keeps calling them "Porns", and we ending up buying a "Mobile Porn". I'll correct him one day[:o)]
