Just resurrecting this old chesnut to save starting a new thread, but i hope some of you can help avert dullness in my office.

Seen as its a hot day and we have had our fill of ice-creams today, we are all on Google Earth and a colleague has spotted this at Heathrow. What is it?

Im guessing its the aircraft used for emergency evacuations and fire drills for crew, although some of my colleagues are convinced that its Thunderbird 2! Certainly does look like a huge aircraft from Google Earth

Thanks,
Sarah

LOL, yeah its the Fire Services Training Rig. A stumpy green aircraft with an upper deck a la 747 and three engines a la MD-11.

Quite impressive to see it all on flames as you're coming into land!

There's also one by the runway at LGW

Stick these co-ordinates in and have a look...

52 20 10.87 N 0 11 43.34 W (Huntingdon)

It's amazing what you can stumble across!

Oh my, great find - what on earth is that? I can only assume its a glitch? (not knowing the area)

There are loads of 'easter eggs' to find on Google Earth, like the colorful metaphors etched into the grass and the 'face'. Spent a good afternoon of my life looking for those sort of things [:I]

Thanks,
Sarah

Loads of RAF bases around that area, Alconbury being one of them, which led me on to looking at RAF Wittering, with all the (harriers I think) lined up nicely.

Anyone else notice some of the recent updates to the imagery?

Vegas seems to have been reflown for starters...

The only problem is they've COMPLETELY cocked up a join over the Strat tower. [n]

Yeah but the tower is still there.

Im watching my home being built,it's now up to a wood frame.

Interestingly I checked on http://www.live.local.com (ms) and they have more detail on their site,I can see my old home back in england where as on google it doesn't have a high enough res to do it.

Yeah there has been a fair bit of new imagery; they now have Benidorm much clearer than they used to :)
