Manchester airport hotels

I need to go to a funeral in Preston on Thursday and have booked bmibaby ORK-MAN on Wednesday night. I have established there is a regular rail service from the airport to Preston but could someone please advise me about an on-site hotel at the airport wiht easy access to both the terminal and the railway station?

Sorry you have to make the journey for such an event - my condolences.

Ive never stayed at a hotel at Manchester airport but I know that the SAS Radisson is inside the terminal complex and that there are walkways to the hotel from the station.

The Manchester Airport web site has some good maps - they are here the one headed "Station full view" should be useful!!

Another vote for the Radisson, stayed a few times and top notch and very handy as linked with the Terminal Building.

We have stayed at the Radisson several times. Excellent positioon re terminals but a little pricey. excellent hotel, however. Bewleys is a more down to earth rate at £69 per room and is positioned only a short distance from the terminal and the rail station.

Oh yer - stayed Bewleys last Feb when going to Jamaica, actually is very nice, much better than expected and as Albert says, much cheaper than Radisson, although not as easy for linking with Terminal etc

I can't vouch for location, but with SASRadisson you do get VA Miles.

There seem to be a good few services from the airport to Preston. TransPennine Express are direct, others you have to change at Oxford Road or Salford Crescent. Check

Yup Bewleys is a safe bet, stayed there a couple of times and it has more than done the job.[y]

I stayed at the hilton and found it to be top notch and without the hefty price tag of the radisson

Have stayed at the Radisson, Hilton and Crowne Plaza. Radisson won easily, followed by CP, the Hilton was looking tired when we stayed a few years ago and definitely not worth the £££ over the Crown P.
Radisson is just so convenient though and we stop there everytime now.

I decided to go with Bewleys because of the price (and it is an Irish company after all ) I'm just back after spending mega-bucks inthe Far East and Oz and my credit card needs to cool down a bit

Its a good choice honey lamb, much more impressive then I thought, rooms are nice and modern and well worth the saving on the Radisson if your watching the pennies

OK, everyone, I'm back and my thoughts on it. I arrived on bmibaby in T3 but somehown missed the exit for the hotels which would have given me and easy stroll over. I ended up in the railway station (no bad thing since I would be taking the train the next day) and in the absence of easily identifiable exits from MAN used the courstesy phone which had the courtesy bus arriving in record time.

At check-in there was a huge queue but apparently not as bad as early on in the evening. There was a self serve check in/check out kiosk but it was not working. However I was quickly and efficiently checked in and assigned a non-smoking family room in the absence of anything smaller. I was also asked about a wake-up call and transport back to the airport. I requested a 6:45 wake-up call and said I would get back about transportation.

In the room there was a funny smell. I couldn't figure what it was immediately but when I went to the window to check the view and found it open I realised someone had been smoking in a non-smoking room [V] Down in reception I joined the queue but there was no alternative. It really isn't the hotel's fault but that of the selfish b******* who think that the term "non-smoking" does not apply to them [:(!]

I went down to the bar and had a tasty snack and enjoyed watching what the average Brit wears to travel [:0] (Don't worry we have our own examples over here! Remind me to tell you of the girl last week coming from Lanzagrotty ahead of us in ORK who had a skirt which barely covered her bum. On the walk to the terminal the swirling wind exposed acres of cellulite thanks to her penchant for wearing a thong [:0] ) The room itself was fine but functional. There was the TV, and the usual amenities including an iron as well as a trouser press [y] The bathroom was tiny and had Dove creme in the hand basin and LUX in the shower as both bath and shampoo [:(!] Fortunately I had samples from both Dubai and Hong Kong so I was fine.

After the delights of 4 and 5* hotels of the past few weeks it seemed a bit basic especially when someone in the room to the right of me sneezed and the person to the left of me said "Bless you" [:0] but I never travel without earplugs (VS, of course) so all was well

Where the hotel really scored was in the morning. I requested a 6:45 wake-up call but was awake before then. I went into the shower and took the phone off the hook but forgot to replace it. At 7:00 someone came knocking at my door with my wake-up call [y]

Two cousins were flying in that morning from DUB on Ryanair having left at some god-forsaken hour. We had agreed they would meet me in the hotel and we would travel together. Given that we would be going to a funeral midday and I needed to catch a train back to MAN at around 3:00pm for my flight and they would join me even though their flight was later we decided that a hearty breakfast was in order. We really couldn't fault what was on offer and it was one of the best breakfasts I have had in an hotel. We Irish know what to do when it comes to breakfasts!!

In short - basic but wholesome. If my layover was longer I would have gone for the Radisson - or if I had known the Hilton was as near I might have gone for the miles but what I had suited me

Agree with your last comment totally Honeylamb, fine for a night without going OTT but def not upto Radisson standard.
