I believe they round down, so a £19.99 transaction will give you 19 miles. All my transactions on the m/c are prefixed with a # on my on line statement, so you should be able to work out which is on what card. :)

I thought the ones prefixed with # would be the AMEX ones, ie. all those on my statement prefixed with # are the later transactions rather than the earlier ones?

It's certainly the m/c ones that have the # on my transactions. How strange! [?]

Same here. Out of the last 4 transactions, the last one was made with my Amex card and has no #, whereas the previous 3 made with my Mastercard have the #.

Got my points today as well!! Woo and indeed Hoo!

Just had a thought - we appear to be getting all the points even using the old card - is it worth risking a booking now and expecting 6x points, or should I wait a day or so to get the card? I fancy Dubai in October, and want to book it asap. [8D]

I think I can see what MBNA are doing, quite happy to be corrected though if I'm barking up the wrong tree ;)

My reckoning is that the # symbols are simply MBNA's marker for any Mastercard transaction that occurred after our AMEX cards came into being, ie. with us and activated. I was confused before as it seemed that all my recent transactions had the # against them so I simply assumed they must be AMEX transactions. Now I've looked closer I can see that I had inadvertently charged some recent stuff to Mastercard, these were all on-line purchases where I'd forgotten to update my card details!

I've just dumped my on-line statement into excel to attempt a reconciliation with the figure Flying Club is giving me: My thinking is this:

- Any Mastercard purchase made before the AMEX card was active gets 2 miles per £ spent
- Any Mastercard purchase made after the AMEX card was active also gets 2 miles per £ spent
- Any AMEX purchase gets 4 miles per £ spent (assuming of course there are no VA or VH purchases)

Applying these rules and then adding on the 10K bonus miles gives me a figure approx 700 miles less than what shows on Flying Club, however this is explained by the fact that the cut off for calculating miles is always a few transactions before the last transaction on your statement (this was explained by someone in a thread a while back but can't locate it!) - hence the reason why your miles awarded never match exactly what you think they should! What happens is that they add the miles from the last few transactions of your previous statement to your latest one - for me this equates to around 700 miles which then puts me near enough bang on what FC is displaying [y]

How nerdy do I feel having been through that, and I'm probably wrong anyway!!

Finally, it seems we all got awarded our miles yesterday (1st Aug). Award of miles normally always coincides with statement date, so does this mean that everyone now has a statement date of 1st of month???

Cheers,

James

My miles always seem to have appeared around the 1st of the month, so no difference there for me.

Just checked previous dates when my miles have been credited....it has always been 7th of month (my usual statement date) the one exception being April when it was 8th.

I just checked my FC account, and my miles were credited on 1st August. Given that the first transaction was on 19th July, that was a very short '30 days from first transaction' that I was told when I called up the other day. Oh well, they're in there so it's all good :D[y]

Got my statement from MBNA but no miles credited to my FC account

Im only waiting for 35000 miles - eek!!! ( good job I dont need em yet!)[:I]

Are these your new Amex cards you're checking, or your online flying club account????

OK, scrub that, it's the flying club account. Just checked mine and yes, 6122 been credited - not sure about the 122 though. But - on checking mr cat's card - he's been credited with 5433 - how did they come by this number? And also been debited with 15,000 for PE flights (Miles plus money) .... fair enough I suppose, except that we haven't yet taken the flights and won't until next month...

Any ideas what's going on????[:0]

Is the 6122 miles not your first spend of £122 on shopping etc and then your bonus 6k miles for your first spend?? Thats how mine worked out.

Same as, but it would be a spend of £61 given that you get 2 miles per £1 spent (not on VS) if using the black card.

Virgin need to whip your miles out of your account when you use them for an upgrade or MPM fare, or you could try spending them again.

When I upgraded the date on my statement is 8 October 06 though, when the flight actually is booked for.

Yep, I could get there on the amount on my card, but not the 5426 (or whatever the exact figure is) on mr cat's card. Weird amount....

I looked back at our history, and to date, these miles haven't been debited until the flight is taken. Booked the flights a couple of months ago, so it seems a bit suspicious that they've taken them on the switchover of cards. Blimey, I hope they don't take them again when we fly.... call to customer services, maybe? What do you reckon?

Hi Claire, whenever we have booked flights using miles they've debited our FC accounts straight away - eg. for our UC trip this autumn they debited us at the end of last year when we booked. Having said that, a few months ago we booked CDC (limo transfers) using miles and as yet we haven't been debited [:?] I've phoned FC to check that everything is booked and they've confirmed yes all is OK. Somewhat off topic but they also confirmed we'll be able to use drive-thru check-in as our API is all completed & in order. (There had previously been a rule that you weren't allowed to use drive-thru if you'd paid for CDC using miles but premier team confirmed this is no longer the case)

Cheers, James

Thanks James - maybe then, they've just been tardy in the past.... nothing surpises me anymore.

The miles for our Gs to SFO were debited from Mr DL and my accounts on the day of booking too.
