Hello Everyone

I am bit of a Virgin virgin (apologies for the pun, I'm sure you've all heard it before..!![}:)])

My husband and I have book a Virgin Holiday this year, and we have both upgraded to UC. We have both become flying club members and I have a couple of questions if someone would be so kind as to help me out if possible please.

1) Can we have a joint membership between the both of us?
2) I have looked on the VA website to see what airmiles we would earn for our UC flights and it does give a figure. I am wondering if this is for UC flights only as opposed to UC upgrades on a VH... any ideas...??[?]
3) If I wanted to, could I use the points I will potentially earn to buy 2 PE flights only for next year?
4) Silly me, I have lost the details of our Flying Club memberships. If I rang up the helpline would they be able to give me the details?

Apologies for the simple nature of these questions, but I am a simple lady,[}:)]

Excellent site by the way.

Nope that is the first time we have had that one. A Virgin 'virgin, virgin' pun, as it were ;). To attempt an answer to your questions, or more accurately a number of answers to your questions:

1) Can we have a joint membership between the both of us? 'fraid not. If you were to keep flying and one of you were to reach gold you could then have a suplimentry account though. One of you can gift a number of miles to the other (there are details on VS.com), although I will leave it to argue who gives the gift to whom.
2) I have looked on the VA website to see what airmiles we would earn for our UC flights and it does give a figure. I am wondering if this is for UC flights only as opposed to UC upgrades on a VH... any ideas...??ISTBC by our VH gurus, but you should get pucka UC miles, AFAIK. What booking class is the ticket (it would be a letter such as Z or J)?
3) If I wanted to, could I use the points I will potentially earn to buy 2 PE flights only for next year? Why of course you can, although I don't think you would have enough to get 2 PE tickets for free
4) Silly me, I have lost the details of our Flying Club memberships. If I rang up the helpline would they be able to give me the details? Of course, and they would probably send you new cards too if you have lost those

but I am a simple lady,[}:)] Don't fib![V];)

VH seem to be booking into D every now and then, but more typically Z. From a mileage point of view, it's irrelevant though - ALL paid Upper Class tickets (including Virgin Holidays ones) earn 200% mileage.

Also, bear in mind, that although you can't "pool" your miles into one account, you can use each account to "buy" half a return award in the future. So, you are able to use both accounts for the benefit of one traveller (although you'll still need the right number of miles in total, of course)

ISTBC, but I don't think new members receive membership cards until after their first miles earning flight.

Once you have your membership number you could register online and then access your account 24/7.

Yes full UC miles will be earned on upgrades via VH[y]

If only earning "free" flights were that simple, I think VS would go out of business if its FC rewards were that good, shame though[}:)]

Nevertheless, they should still have their membership numbers which would allow them online access to their VS accounts. I suspect this is what was meant by 'lost membership details'.

Madmilomutt - Prieffer is quite right about 'D' bookings. It is unusual, but happens. It would be important to check your booking class.

True - if you are lucky enough to get D class, then limo transfer is included, would be excellent!

Thanks guys for all of the answers, I knew you lot were a clever bunch but your replies just confirmed that.[oo]

Apologies for the Virgin virgin thing...[:I] I honestly thought you you may have heard that before.[}:)]

Once again, thanks guys. At least I know know why I have not received my membership card seeing as this will be my first flight.

Just one thing, I am not really sure how I can tell what ticket type I am flying on Z, D J... Jeez I haven't got a clue where to even find this out.[?]

I am not sure how VS holidays do it. But they should send you a ticket one way or another; perhaps a paper ticket, perhaps an e-ticket. You could give them a ring and check - they should know what you are on about it you ask them for the booking class. Prey it is a D!

I'd say the safest (and easiest...) bet is to call VS themselves. Give them your booking reference (or date of flight/names) and they'll be able to tell you the exact fare code that's been used.

They'll also be able to confirm what you are and aren't entitled to on that basis [y]

I remember our first uc trip was via VH we rung up before booking and they said we got limo and all that. Then we booked and someone else said no we don't get it. Now I found out the exact time and day I was told the limo was included so in the end we had a bit of a stand-off with the supervisor I told her she could go back and listen to the tapes (as they always let you know you are being recored for training purposes) and hey we got the limo.

Not only that they put us in D and we ended up with £600 of John Lewis vouchers - wow we were in heaven on our return.

Strangely after that VH had been updated on what was and what wasn't included in upper upgrades and the differences ex lgw/lhr.

Funnily enough we asked about the limo transfer as well a little after we book and were told a resounding "NO" we were not entitled. I don't remember the website wording being particularly clear on this point, but I thought to myself " The lady works for Virgin she must know what she is talking about" [ii]

I think a little call to VH is in order to find out the ticket type. I guess I am looking for a D is that the best to hope for?[:?]

D would be excellent, although it is highly likey to be booked into Z (no Limo[n]) but you never know. Probably not worth calling VH to find out as they will probably not know on there system (plus Indian Call centre and long waits), if you call VS directly as preiffer suggested and give then your VH booking ref they will be able to tell you which class you ticket is booked in (it will tell you on your paper ticket but you will only get that a couple of weeks before departure!)
