Looking at booking soon for a flight from LHR-HGK-SYD-LHR and I'm trying to figure out exactly how many tier points I get for this.

Looked at the website and it says for one-way, 6 for PE and 10 for UC (so I'm assuming LHR-HGK is 3 for PE, 5 for UC and HKG-SYD is the other 3 or 5?).

I was under the impression, from somewhere (Flying Club booklet), you got a different number of tier points for this route or am I completely confused?

eg It says for PE,
LHR-HKG 3 tier points;
HKG-SYD 3 tier points
SYD-LHR (direct) 5 tier points......

Does that mean you get less tier points for not staying in Hong Kong or is that out of date?

Yup. You're reading it correctly.

Same applies to Upper (5/5 or 8 for Direct)

Paul are you sure as I thought VS have now brought the LHR>SYD flights in-line with all their other routes, so if you fly direct LHR>SYD>LHR in PE you'll earn 12 TP's, the same as doing LHR>HKG and HKG>SYD returns seperatley earning 2 lots of 6 TP's for PE.

so with or without over-night stopervers in HKG you will earn:

J earns 20 TP's for a return trip
W earns 12 TP's
Y earns 8 TP's (even with discounted Y as well :D)

Using the earning calculator on the VS web site a return trip LHR>SYD>LHR in J says you earn 20 TP's

I thought the LHR-SYD tier point rules were changed during the 01/03/2006 update.

I cannot get on VA.com at the minute, another of those dreaded error messages I'm afraid!! [:?]

I though both sectors earnt full tier points even with no stopover - Eg 4 for non N Economy fares, 6 for PE and 10 for Upper.:D

Yes, they fixed the TP discrepancy; so you now earn the same if you go direct or do the stopover.

So Upper Class is 20 TP round trip regardless if you stopover or not. Just treat each sector individually.

Thanks,
Richard

Plus you also earn the full 8 TP's even on a discounted 'N' economy fare.
