It doesn't really stand out as a feature for me - I don't think it's going to sway many borderline ticket choices in VS's favour.

Like Mark, I believe that onboard Wifi would be a significant addition to the UC experience and would go alot further to bolting down more bodies in seats and generating more revenue. :)

If they have wifi in UC then why not in PE and Y - do other airlines offer this service? Surely the range of the transmitter would allow people in PE to use it anyway - especially if upstairs on a 744?

Oh good grief. What a load of cods wollop. So there I am sitting in the plane, thinking 'I really want to know a good restaurant in NY'. Plausable so far. But then I text some bloke in Rhyll and he tells me to go to Fernados Grill. Yeh sure like I am going to pay for that recommendation.

Perhaps they should just spend the investment they have made on some flowers on the bar......

ANA and Etihad offer Wifi in all seats, I think this is the same for SQ also??

A single transmitter should give you access to all seating I would imagine, no reason not to give all access I suppose!!!! [y]

Wifi would fit nicely into the UCS portfolio and surely for heavy business routes like the East coast would be a huge selling point.

Sorry but I also agree it would be a waste of money.

As for WiFi - who's ever tried using a lap-top when sat in an average Y seat [:w]

I just love the comment from VS Onboard Media Development Manager Dave Tharp;

ÒWe thought it would be fun to offer a service that is the perfect solution to that niggling question you donÕt always know the answer to..... or even the best way to chat up the cabin crew!"

Waste of staff time and resources at a time when many areas of the service are being cut back or the delivery is below par. Own up if you were on the focus group for this one;)

So the management at VS think it is fine to pimp their onboard staff. I think I can almost feel a harassment case coming on.[:(!]

Reminds me of the ill-fated 'Earth Calling' service.... pure gimmick, and excuse for a PR.

Thanks,

'fraid I'm with the "it's just a gimmick" brigade! If I have a question, I think I'd be far better off waiting until I land and then asking the hotel concierge / any other friendly local for dining recommendations etc. If I want the answer to any other random question and I don't have internet access, the local library will give me the answer without charging a pound a pop.

It just seems bizarre to waste money on this whilst cutting back on things passengers really want (like amenity kits).

Strange world we live in.

I agree that it is a waste of time. It is a very good point made by Sailor... that line is meat and drink for any staffers who are considering taking action against VS for encouraging sexual harrassment.

Here's a question for it:

Oh, dear pound-swallowing Oracle, wouldst thou do my bidding and retortest this vexing quandary: What parsimonious pixie or stingy sprite hath transfigured, through the meanest of magicks, my kit of amenities into a milksop's sleeve of feeble card?

Good idea!

Maybe it'll get swamped with "where are the toothbrushes?" during the last hour of every flight, too... [}:)]
