We're flying to Rhodes in a couple of weeks on Olympic's service from LGW. We change planes in Athens and connect on to another Olympic flight to Rhodes. Does anyone know if we'll manage to get our luggage checked all the way through to Rhodes or will we have to reclaim it in ATH and check in again for the flight to RHO? I was figuring we may have to reclaim it as presumably we need to clear customs at first port of entry?

Any thoughts/guidance?

Cheers,

James

Hi

Not sure about this route but I regularly fly in and out of CDG en route to somewhere else in France, and the bags are always checked through, so I don't think you have to pick them up at the first entry point. Might be different if you did the seperate legs with different carriers.

Many thanks Pat. I wonder what happens about customs, as the second flight is simply an internaal domestic flight so no customs the other end?

I did the same trip to Rhodes with Olympic last year - only out of LHR instead.

The luggage was checked all the way through so the plane change at Athens involved getting off one, wandering around some shops, and then back onto another.

I dont know why you dont clear customs as you say (as you would have to if visiting the US) but I presume its something to do with EU membership?
