Thought you'd all like the following update following recent events:

Please note in the light of recent events there have been no changes to the rules and regulations on the sale of Duty Free in-flight (this includes flights operating into/out of US).

However we are advising passengers transferring onto connecting flights not to make purchases as they may be confiscated prior to boarding their next flight if not packed in their checked in luggage.

Due to the heightened demand for goods onboard we also recommend that passengers pre-order their Retail Therapy goods prior to flying to avoid disappointment. However we require a minimum of 3 days notice for orders.

The Pre-order team can be contacted on 0870 190 3003 (+ 44 (0) 870 190 3003) Monday to Friday.

The range can be viewed at http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/wh ... /index.jsp

Thankyou for that, its a plus point of this site that VA staff are members too that can give us good advice.

The rules are changing almost hourly on the enhanced security measures.

Currently (correct at time of print) only ciggies and chocolate can be sold. No alcohol, perfume electrical items etc etc can be purchased. However, this may change by tomorrow.

Thanks for the update.

I am sure that the powers that be will try and get this lucrative trade back up and running as soon as possible. Good points have been made by paul_a421 and Decker in the other duty free thread, but I suppose that the bottom line is that we are two days into a series of events without precedent. No one saw this coming, no one has planned for it and so, we will just have to be patient until a combination of a lower threat level and new procedures thought out by BAA / the security people make air travelling life easier again.

FWIW there was no Duty Free on board on my BA flight today (there usually is on this flight).

Cheers, Howard
