I've seen lots of comments about the chaos at LHR; can anyone update us on how chaotic (or not) things are at LGW??? I'm due out of there on VAA soon and would appreciate any info on check-ins, delays, problems etc.

Thanks,

Vix.

Go to this page, and click the "more info" link in the big maroon box.

There's a bit of detail specific to Gatwick on it.

I was really after PAX experiences rather than "the party line" telling me what I'm not entitled to etc. "On the ground" information about check-in delays, cancelled flights, "hot-tips" that give me a better chance of getting to the check-in on time etc would be really appreciated. This is driven partly by the VAA staff member commenting on LHR Virgin recommendations of getting there as early as possible - as the VAA web site suggests versus the reality of BAA locking out from check-in anyone who's there more than 2 hours before departure - clearly mutually exclusive positions that should by now be resolved as there are no more surprises occurring at this time?

I'd be interested to know if other staff are volunteering at Gatwick as well, or is it just Heathrow where all the resources are being sent to?

I would seriously recommend only turning up half an hour to an hour before your flight. Although my expereince was with BA in the North Terminal, I turned up 3 1/2 hours early and spent 2 hours waiting for check-in and 1 hour for security.

The queues are combed, so you get to go straight to the front of both the check-in and security lines when your flight is called.

Cheers, Howard.

I think this is pushing it slightly as most flights close the gate 30 mins prior to departure. I know we are in 'different times' just now, but I would still advise turning up as adivsed by the airlines in normal circumstances (ie 2 to 3 hours prior) or checking the airline's or airport's website for further comments before leaving home.
Does anyone know what the limo status is? ie are these being booked any earlier or later than usual?
