Does Canada = America?

Perhaps a silly question, but we are off to Vancouver/Rockies this Friday for a couple of weeks (with BA). I notice most of the new security restrictions apply to USA - is this classed as the same for duty free, magazines and books etc., or is there a subtle difference (apartfrom really being a different countr, just on the same continent?!) - can't really seem to find any clarification anywhere?

Canada are not allowing ANY liquids/gels in hand baggage - OR Duty Free. (I've just come back from there).

All the stores airside have their drinks chillers sealed up, so they've taken the same approach as the US I'm afraid.

Ex-UK, the books/magazines issue is regardless of destination, so it makes no odds.
Ex-USA/Canada, it's the same restriction: No liquids, but hand baggage allowed.

The only exception at the moment are BA. They're not allowing hand baggage of any kind in OR out of the UK on their planes. (As witness at Boston, as people had their little plastic bags). No idea why they're being different though.

I am flying off to Vancouver with BA in mid-Sept so will be interested in how this one develops.

I have been advised that books/magazines ARE allowed on aircraft is purchased airside? (although the threat has been downgraded now and small bags are allowed so I guess its no longer relevant unless Canada are enforcing any new regulations still?)

Thanks guys - only time will tell, with the situation changing every day. At least, I believe, I can take my i-pod (especially for the long, arduous night flight home!) and phone. Perhaps I can squeeze my small camcorder in there too!

Come Setember 1st on way home, maybe able to get duty free, or least on board or even arrivals at LHR.
