VS075 Seats

Hi,
We're booked to fly economy from Manchester to Orlando on 9th Feb 07.
pre-allocated seats 29,AB&C. Looking at the seat plans here, this row is a few rows back from the front of E.

However, while speaking to VA, they referred me to the web site seating plan and were adamant that this row is the first in economy.

I appreciate that it can vary from AC to AC, but was the VA call centre person telling me complete rubbish?[?]

Finally, any feedback on these seats would be welcome.

Hi Martin and welcome to V-Flyer

If you take a look here it shows the seating plan for the LGW/MAN type of a/c that you will be on. Row 29 is not the first in Economy, so it seems that the VS agent is telling you incorret info[ii].

Also if you look at the guide I have given you above it will give you other V-Flyers opinions of which seats are the best and worst.

Might it possibly the case that 29 is the first Economy row that can be pre-allocated ? If so, the others in front will become available when OLCI comes into play for the flight 24 hrs in advance.

One way to check this out would be to get your VS or VH reference from your TA and use the "Update Your Booking" facility on the VS website. This should show if there are seats currently available further forward.

I thought that was probably the case - she referred me to a seat plan on the VA website (layout 1 from memory)that showed E starting from row 30 with PE in front (she was also adamant that there was a row 29 also).[:?]

Apart from the Exit Rows & Bulkheads as these are only available for allocation at the airport.

Its an interesting theory Paul you have said, but it seems strange, I know the 3 rows directly behind the downstairs PE section (21/22/23) are usually not available for pre-selection but it seems strange as to why rows 26/27/28 etc are not available at this stage either.

The config they have mentioned to you is the LHR a/c config, not the LGW one, must be where they are getting confused[ii], although there is def not a row 29!

Just looked at the VS website and there is a 747/400 Configuration 1 (which is I think the old J200 seat configuration ? Possibly. ISTBC). If they pointed Martin at that there are no aircraft remaining in the fleet with that configuration.

Martin, in any event, the agent was wrong. Still, you now have access to a wealth of experience about what flying VS is like [y] and are now embarked on a true and righteous path...

Give it a try when you can. It all adds to the build up to the event! And have fun when the trip comes around.

Martin when I flew out in July the first row to be available for selection on line was row 29, this was taken so we opted for row 30 as we wanted to be as far forward as possible.

Once OLCI opened 24 hours before, rows 26, 27 and 28 became available and we moved to row 26 and 27. The small section behind downstairs PE also became available too, rows 22, 23 (and sometimes 24).

If you can check in on line you may be able to allocate youself a bit further forward, however, bear in mind that rows 26 and 27 have the galley very close by. OK for outward travel but wouldn't advise them for a night flight.

I'm sure these seats are just part of the percentage that is not released until OLCI.

A personal view: Having just flown between MAN & MCO on a busy outbound flight I can say that 59 A,B & C were pretty good. OK they are toward the rear of the economy cabin however, you are well away from the galley and exit rows where people tend to congregate during the flight, you are close to the toilets at the rear (if that's important[:w]) without being TOO close to be disturbed by fellow pax and as the meal service works from back/front towards the galley, you invariably get a full choice of meal.

Flew BA last time (2004), so should be interesting to compare.

Might stick with row 29 (or poss 28) - presume this row will disembark quite early on.

You can have the bugle and sabre to lead the cavalry charge (once UC & PE have flaunted past your eyes[}:)])

Having said that, I still have not had the luggage beat me off the plane and immigration at MCO was pretty quick despite a nearly full flight. Apart from feeling 'Terra Firma' beneath your feet, I could see no real benefit from being amongst the first to disembark, especially if this is a B&S trip[:w]
